In this video I will share how I make Luby’s fried fish at home. This is the crunchiest fish you’ll ever make. The secret to Luby’s fried fish is the cracker crust. I am also going to make sides for a delicious dinner anyone can make!

INGREDIENTS
2 lbs cod fish
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup of cold water (add more if needed)
1 large egg
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 Tbsp yellow mustard
2 1/2 sleeves saltine crackers
cooking oil for frying

Oh my….My family was raised in Houston from 1976 to 1996. Luby’s was always our favorite.. My children loved the fried okra . I have missed it for years. 🥰

The fried cod/haddock was my absolute FAVORITE to get at Luby's! I think that they also encrusted it with sliced almonds…or maybe that was Wyatt's cafeteria that had the almonds. GOOD EAT'N! 😊
Loved Luby’s & Furr’s cafeteria. I’d always look down the line to see if they had the fish before I started loading my tray. Very disappointed if they didn’t have it.
There’s still a few around here in Houston when I stop by. I like to get there either chicken fried chicken meal or the cheesy steak meal, mac & cheese, yams, and a side of cabbage or fried okra. 😊

Growing up, my Luby's order was almost always fried fish, mac & cheese and either mashed potatoes w/cream gravy or fried okra. I'd also sometimes get a piece of chocolate icebox pie (topped w/whipped cream). There's only 1 Luby's left in the Austin area and it's on the opposite side of town from me, so I never get to go. 🙁 Luckily, HEB carries Luby's frozen food — the fried fish (cooked in the air fryer) and mac & cheese are just as good as from the restaurant!
I remember going when I was little! It was like a grown up version of a school cafeteria and you paid for what you put on your tray. It was so fun as a kid to do that.
My favorites are the chicken fried steak, liver with onion and gravy, Mac n cheese, spinach, and I always ask for cheese sauce for my spinach. My grandson loves the Mac n cheese

Me and a friend were literally just talking about this exact meal! Lol I had to send it to her before I even watched it! Lol yeah you did it You hit the nail on the head with this one! But you do that with all your videos! Obviously we love them and I just recently made your chili cheese enchiladas or the chili con carne cheese enchiladas. And they were a hit everywhere! I made a big batch of them and shared and everyone loved them! Actually my husband told me they taste better than the restaurants that we have down the road! So huge compliment to you. ❤❤❤

Luby's Cafeteria…..Yes yes yes and if you're in Texas and lived at least in the Houston area in the 80's…..do you remember Wyatt's Cafeteria???? Hands down the best chicken fried steak ever! Even better than Luby's and even their Fried Fish was good but the CHICKEN FRIED STEAK was where it at!!!!! We actually preferred Wyatt's over Luby's but it went outta business so Luby's it was but don't get me wrong …….we love Luby's still…… If I want it now I have to drive a little ways because the one in my town (Deer Park) closed down.
My Go To Lubys order is either (depending on my mood):
Also a side note…… The Luby's in my town before it closed down did all you can eat for dinner. So you could get a bunch of different things.
#1: Fried Fish or the Fish Almondine but mainly the Fried Fish, Mac And Cheese (always) and Fried Okra and/or Buttered Corn or Green Beans and a Roll also…….Strawberry and bananas!
#2: Chicken Fried Steak with the same sides and roll
#3: Hamburger Steak or The Cheese Steak they offered with the sames sides and roll
#4: Roasted Chicken with Dressing (stuffing) with Mac and Cheese and either corn or green beans with a roll. Lol
Drink of choice: Sweet Tea or Dr. Pepper
Miss luby s. Liver and onions with Mac and cheese and sweet tea. 😊
Fried fish, fried okra, and creamed spinach…every sunday after church with Gma and Gpa…the good ole days!!!
Oh, yes, I grew up sating at Luby’s. After noon mass, we were off to Luby’s!
