Join Nicole as she recreates a nostalgic family classic: Chicken à la King, inspired by her mother’s beloved recipe. This creamy, comforting dish features tender chicken, fresh mushrooms, and peas in a rich sherry cream sauce — perfect for a cozy dinner at home.
While Nicole stays true to the heart of her mom’s recipe, she updates a few details to make it even tastier. Instead of canned mushrooms, she opts for fresh ones, and she skips the pimentos for a cleaner, more refined flavor. Watch as Nicole demonstrates essential cooking tips, like how to properly temper eggs so they don’t scramble — ensuring the sauce stays silky smooth.
As a special bonus, Nicole wraps up the video by showing you how to craft the perfect Sidecar cocktail — the ideal pairing for this rich and savory classic.

I'm going to make this, but I'll use shrimp and make a seafood a la King. This is a good recipe to have. When blue crab is in season here in PA, I'll use the crab. Thanks for a good all purpose backbone of a recipe!
Just had this a week ago
What is a good sub for Dry Sherry if you can't afford that?
When I was a kid, we had our chicken a la king served on buttered toast. Yummy!😊
My mom made Betty Crocker Chicken Ala King. It was very good.
Who keeps dry sherry in their pantry? What is a good substitute?
I have not had this dish since the early 80s when I was in the Navy. This looks sooooo much better than what I ate.
Do you clean mushrooms? If so, how?
my Mom always severed this over cornbread / corn muffins
It looks good but really it’s a version of chicken pot pie without the crust…
Would you post the recipe Nicole made? The one with the link is not how she made it.
Yummy! I love chicken ala king!
Love your videos
I used to love eating the Swanson chicken a la king as a kid. It was so comforting and tasted so good when I reheated it with sautéed onions. So good.
We used to have a ladies church luncheon where a bunch of us would make a batch and serve it with biscuits, salads and desserts. Comfort food!
Childhood memories from the children's home!!! Loved it then & now! Usually served with noodles.
We always put chicken a la king over biscuits. Yummy!
In my childhood home, this was always served over white toast points and always had frozen peas in the white sauce. I made this about 6 weeks ago for the first time in decades…so many decades that my 29 year old son tried it for the first time!
Similar to a 70's dish, Chicken Supreme.
Can leftover cooked chicken be frozen? For some reason, the family is not happy with the aftertaste when I use it in a chicken pot pie. Thanks.
This was the first recipe my ex husband learned after we got divorced. His mother taught him because he was having take outs. He taught our daughter and she gave me the recipe, which I published in a collection of South African recipes. Of course the method is different, as is the case with family recipes and no alcohol or eggs were used, but the basics are the same. This is a delicious easy meal. We serve it with basmati rice and it is known as “your father’s recipe.”
Cute hat! 😊
So glad you substituted the pimento for red bell pepper cuz they are not my favorite either! Thank you!
You can also add a little green bell pepper, and a little Paprika for taste. Leftovers can be used for pies with store bought pastry. It's delicious.
I loved that as a kid.
Mum would put almond flakes in as well
Why do you whisper sentences at the end of making a point? Please speak with constant volume.
HELP!! Was this a test….why is the “printed” recipe that corresponds to this video so far off and different, especially the ingredients??
My mom made it quite a bit, but used biscuits instead of rice. I will have to try it with rice soon!
Wow, that came together very quickly. Looks delicious 😋
Oooh!! Thanks for this recipe! Could you do a series on vintage cocktails? You make them look so good!❤
love that recipe. I used serve the one from the can once a week. But i can't find it anymore. Yours is better. I never use canned mushrooms.
try and be more enthusiastic lol
Carrots for those who cannot eat peppers
Thank you for this! My mom made chicken a la king also with the puff pastry shells (we still do it every Easter brunch) but she used cream of mushroom/chicken/and celery soups and the pimentos. I've had three children born on the day after eating that sodium bath, it put me into labor every time. Now the kids are grown and they want to eat healthier and I think this recipe will do the trick!
Absolutely the best!!!!!
My mom used to buy the frozen packets that you boiled to heat it up! We couldn't afford the ingredients to it ourselves.
I’m glad you didn’t add water chestnuts.
Omg I love this dish. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤😮
Can you show us how you chop your onion.
If you don’t have sherry . Can you substitute for Pinot Grigio or a savaignah blanc
Awesome, thanks
Can’t tell you how many Sunday dinners my Nana made this growing up and she always served it in the Pepperidge Farm puff pastry shells! Great memories ❤!
My mother used to make this used the frozen puff pastry cups with the top on it, buttered of course. This made it very elegant. ❣️
Great use for leftovers with good upgrades.
