For far too long, the art of barbecue and grilling have been considered “men’s work.” But women were cooking with fire since the earliest days of American history, too. In our next miniseries on Proof, hosted by Cook’s Country magazine’s Toni Tipton-Martin and Morgan Bolling, we profile four women who have been stoking embers and bringing the heat to Southern cuisine. The first episode drops Thursday, August 1!
This series is also an audio companion to a forthcoming book from America’s Test Kitchen called Women Southern Women Cook: History, Lore, and 300 Recipes from Every Corner of the American South. You can preorder the book where books are sold:

May I ask whatever became of the Pangs (father and son team [Hunger Pangs])? Thank you kindly.
Nobody asked for this.
Politics ruins everything.
It's weird when ATK ventures into these niche topics because they're supposed to be about how to be a better a better cook regardless of your gender, age, education level, religion, etc.
There's always a place for interesting tidbits like how butchers wives were at the forefront of a lot of grilling because the butcher brought home the lower level meats for the family, but this type of stuff seems below ATK.
Funny, while watching hundreds (or more?) ATK and CC episodes, it never occurred to me that women were underrepresented, just as it never occurred to me to think, "Eeeew, women, I'm not going to cook or bake anything THEY do, they're WOMEN!".
Apparently, though, YOU think that way.
