Legit Filipino Spaghetti | Marion’s Kitchen

Ever tried sweet spaghetti… made with BANANA KETCHUP… and HOT DOGS?! This sweet spaghetti recipe, aka Filipino spaghetti, is much loved throughout the Philippines and is a famous comfort food. It’s like a spaghetti and meat sauce but sweeter, due to the main component of the sauce: bananas! Yep, banana ketchup is sweet, savoury but delicious, giving serious umami vibes without a tomato in sight. Oh, and did I mention there are hot dogs in this recipe too?!

  1. As a Filipino, living in Australia. Filipino spaghetti is always on the table. My kids loved it, they always say Mommy's spaghetti. Sometimes my kids bring it to school during their school activities and it will always finish in no time.

  2. We don’t really use canned hotdogs. Never heard of it. We use Red hotdogs. I feel like using Banana ketchup for Filipino spaghetti is more Carinderia style. We do use tomato sauce/pasta sauce also.

  3. This dish is like when you are a kid and put ketchup on pasta, but instead of that boring experience it is meaty and sweet. You can add chili's to it to give it depth. Or spicy sausage… I be crazy and put in fermented fish sauce (bagoong isda) and regular fish sauce (patis) for even MORE depth. Agh I miss thissss

  4. This is good, but we use any hot dogs and we use fresh hotdogs, mostly. You probably saw someone using Vienna sausage in a can. But mostly, we use the ones in plastic vacuum bags. Also, we use ground beef instead of pork. But hey, it’s your recipe. I don’t think I’ve eaten a pork spaghetti yet.

  5. I went to a Thai restaurant in Maryland before and they had something similar to sweet and spicy spaghetti but it has shrimp instead of ground meat. It reminded me so much of Filipino spaghetti, it was so good. I regret not remembering what it's called.

  6. Filipino style spaghetti is best paired with Fried chicken! These are usually served during kids' birthday parties. In fact one of Jollibee's most popular meals is the Chickenjoy and Jolly Spaghetti combo. Hope you can try it out!

  7. We don't normally use canned hotdogs in Spaghetti, it's should be the red hotdogs from Purefoods, swift, bingo, any local Filo brands or the Filo red hotdogs imported in ur country. Canned hotdogs aren't good.

  8. Growing up, my best and oldest friend was Persian. We are still super close to this day. I remember trying her mom's Persian style spaghetti for the first time and was SHOCKED by how delicious it was. The addition of saffron, turmeric, red pepper flakes. It was so different yet similar to the pasta I had. Its still one of my favorites tbh.

  9. Watching this video as I’m eating filo spaghetti now 😂 My husband is Italian and the first time he tried Filipino spaghetti he dropped his fork and said “what world did I wake up in.”

Fast forward 6 years later and he’s the first person to get seconds every Christmas 😂❤

  10. Hi Marion! At home, we also use margarine to sauté the minced meat, garlic and onions, and add a can or two of liver spread for extra flavour. I also know friends who put in evaporated milk on to the pasta sauce for creaminess. Please try these next time! 🥰

  11. Marion I love your recipes and buy a lot of your products, but as someone who has been to Italy and tries to perfect bolognese i was getting scared with every new crazy ingredient, love your channel and it was really interesting to see how other cultures put a spin on an Italian classic, really interesting video.

  12. One secret ingredient that is not popularly known is condensed milk which makes it creamier and we don't use canned hotdogs but tender juicy red hotdogs that you can only find in the Filipino store. It's so nice to see you also try this recipe! 🙂
