Lemon Bars

Lemon bars are one of the EASIEST desserts to make but oh so delicious. I love the soft lemon filling paired with a crisp shortbread crust and the flavor is beyond; so bright and zingy with all the lemon flavor from the juice and zest, they’re simply irresistible!

Recipe:

I like my lemon squares with a really soft top and a crisp bottom but you can adjust bakiing times to your liking. Hope you enjoy!

  1. So, my cookie crust bottom floated to the top somehow during the final baking process. The lemon filling sank to the bottom. I thought I had burned my dessert but after cutting it, it still tasted delicious. I’m just curious how this happened since I followed the instructions and video lesson to the “T”!

  2. No butter in the filling?
I just made these and my oven temperature was dead on.
Due to using an inside oven thermometer. But form a crust on top. Maybe use no fan. Put a bath in the oven to make oven more moisture especially in Canadian winter's due to low humidity.

  3. is there an internal temp I could use in the lemon mix while baking. I ask because I made this recipe for my wife and kids and now my wife wants me to make it for her birthday party. However, I plan on making it in a pan 3x the size of the baking pan shown. I figure if I have the internal temperature then I can be diligent with the internal temperature because I don't know what the actual baking time would be with that much more lemon mixture would be when done so I don't get excessive Browning. Another question I had is can I substitute limes instead of lemons. I was thinking about making two different versions

  4. Tried this recipe yesterday, it was unfortunately an epic fail 😩
Followed the instructions diligently but the crust was rock hard, the lemon was running in some areas, other areas crispy and hard. Definitely would not try this again, all the money wasted for nothing, very disappointing 😕

  5. I made this and followed your recipe exactly – please tell me what went wrong! I used the metal 9×13 pan you suggested, lined it with parchment, used fresh lemons, regular flour, the temp on my oven is correct… but the custard sank to the BOTTOM and the shortbread was on top and really gummy! SO GROSS! what went wrong??

  6. I think lemon bars fell out of favor when, during the height of their popularity, the box mixes came out, which aren’t nearly as good. People stopped making them from scratch, then they stopped making the box mixes because they were 💩. Ultimately, people forgot how good real lemon bars were. Most people today have never even had a real one. 🥺

  7. Dear friend,

I really like your style; you're an inspiration. Please know there is titanium dioxide in a lot of white colored products–like the paper towel you used to wet your knife. They also use it in Colgate toothpaste (where it is more likely to be harmful), but because we're kin I know you'll avoid all of it.
