  2. {EDIT to add: I accidentally boiled it for about 20 minutes just now and the beef softened up beautifully and still has flavor but still have some questions about the braising detailed below in my original post. Thank you.}

    Okay so I tried this recipe today.

    First time I've ever braised meat I tried to follow it exactly.

    I even cheated and used a slightly better quality meat.

    2 hours in fully seasoned ready to serve the beef is still chewy.

    But the soup tastes great. It's not chewing gum chewy but it's not fall apart soft either.

    I wonder if I didn't braise the beef "enough". I still like this recipe even though I don't use the alcohol and I use a little more red pepper and black pepper and added a little tomato sauce.

    I actually thought the tomato sauce would tenderize the beef but probably not enough quantity.

    I think next time I will make the oil hotter… Aggressively as you said… And really seal the edges of the beef more more.

    At this point I'm afraid of cooking the flavor out.

    But I think it will still be delicious just not fall apart soft.

    Any guesses on what I might have done wrong? I'm still thinking the braising wasn't aggressive enough.

  3. I can’t stand cooking videos they don’t have the ingredients in the description such a waste of time some people like to look at the ingredients on the description to decide whether not they want to even waste of time watching the video you need to know whether or not you have the ingredients in Your home

  4. Made this soup last night and followed directions exactly. It was delicious! I used wine instead of beer, but next time will make sure I have a dark beer or stout on hand. Made in my cast iron dutch oven – perfect. There is absolutely nothing I would change in this recipe. It was, hands down, the best soup I've ever made. Thank you! This recipe will be my go-to for cold weather suppers.

  5. can you fry the mushrooms in the beginning before frying up the beef? because u used a separate pan to fry them up mid way and i want to use as little pans as possible. so in the same pan, am i able to fry the mushrooms, take them out then fry the beef?
