Fair warning…I got carried away and fried shallots, then capers, then olives right after each other. Though happy with the results, the unfortunate consequence 0:09 was a burned out microwave. 🙁
Half a cup of oil?!? Appetite go buh- bye!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen olives in oil 🧐
you vill eat ze bugs
Hmm…. it would take less long to fry the shallots.
My new favorite for infused oils, honestly.
Can you cover the bowl while microwaving or will that prohibit the ability to lose their moisture and fry/crisp? I can only imagine how filthy the splatters must make everything.
Very cool technique. I really like cooking my shallots in a pan 😊
How to make poison food, burn it in the microwave!
Shallot/onion/garlic oil is, itself, a great garnish for things like drizzling on soup or toast. It can also be safely consumed by those with intolerance issues with allium fructans.
As a lefty, it looks so strange to see another lefty use a knife.
IDK frying them on the stove sounds easier than repeatedly opening and closing my clunky microwave door. Same number of dishes.
Seems like……………..better off just using a pan on the stove??????????
Will try this trick with shallots next time I make biryani
No mention but I hope you didn't waste all of that lovely shallot oil!
Easier to just cook in a pan.
Vegetable oil? You mean rapeseed and soybean oil? No thanks.
LOL I could do those shallots in a pan in about half the time. You missed the mark on this one, ATK #throwawayyourmicrowave
@TheDrewBarrymoreShow had Cameron Diaz gold caramelized shallots are also exceptional
I made the shallots on the stove in avocado oil and the oil is the best dressing to use on salads
That's a lot of oil!
The most interesting part of this to me is the ATK branded paper towels.
Loved this for a small amount of fried shallots.. Just curious how much does the oil spatters in the microwave? My inclination would be to put a cover on the bowl to help prevent a mess.
This is great but Maesri fried shallots (I got them on Amazon) are no mess, taste great and free up my time for your other cool recipes.
That's a lot of oil!!
Seems a good idea, the shallots , but as noted… by others , very easy to burn. I'll give it a go…useful for a small amount 👌🤙
Seems the time is faster / as fast on the stovetop
Love content about microwave
Is anyone else getting "responses" to their comments ostensibly from "Test Kitchen" for prizes? I think it's spam & have been reporting it. I wish ATK would address this issue and warn folks about these scams/phishing expeditions. I get them on other channels as well, but mostly HERE. 😡
No microwave recipes, please.
As expensive as shallots are in my area, I wouldn't waste them by dousing them in vegetable oil or microwaving them.
A dollop of good lard or coconut oil in the fry pan and in about the same amount of time and yum.
Wow! My mind is blown!! You can fry in the microwave? Does this work for other food as well?
1/2 cup oil….that's a deal breaker.
The Bounty paper towel product placement was noticed and not well received. My favorite thing about ATK is that it is not beholden to the plague of advertising. Don't let this be a trend.
Those shallots look too dark / burnt, though. ☹I've accidentally let my shallots get that dark before while frying them.
I’m gonna do it. Does it work with onion too? You know I’m gonna try it with every thing 🤪
