Perfect Winter Food! Braised Beef Brisket Stew Chinese Style – Pressure Cooker Recipe
So in this recipe I’m doing an authentic Chinese braised beef stew in a pressure cooker – my Pressure King Pro which is very much like an Instant Pot. This reduces the cooking time from around 2 hours to just 30 mins!!! And there is no loss in quality or flavour.
NB – For those people who prefer to cook it in a more conventional way you just brown/sauté the ingredients just like in my recipe but in conventional pans and then put the stew into a casserole dish or similar with a lid and put in an oven at gas mark 2, 300F, 150 c for 2 hours.
Ingredients
1 kg of beef brisket or any other stewing beef
500ml beef stock
5 cloves of garlic
1 thumb sized piece of fresh ginger
1 medium heat chilli
5 stems of spring onions scallions
1 tsp 5 spice powder
2 star anise
2 tsp of soft brown sugar (other sugars are fine)
2 tbsp of rice wine or dry sherry or dry white wine
3 tbsp of dark soy sauce
2 tbsp of plain flour
A good pinch of salt and a large grind of black pepper
4-5 tbsp of cooking oil for frying
This dish goes really well with my pak choi recipe
