Pork Chow Mein – Chinese Fakeaway Recipe

Chow mein is probably one of the most well-known dishes available from western Chinese takeaways. How authentically Chinese it is will always be disputed, but it does seem that something like modern chow mein was brought to the US by Chinese immigrants around about 1850. Chow mein simply means ‘fried noodles’, and it is important to stir-fry them, not just boil them. I’m using pork for this video, but chow mein can also be made with chicken, beef, prawns or tofu. Chow mein is a very simple dish – it’s very easy to make and totally delicious.

  1. Keef, that looks wonderful! So fresh and crunchy and tasty. Yum yum! I might have to get a wok. That said, I have electric burners on my stove and I'm not sure they would get a wok hot enough. Hm. I could always try in a big frying pan and see how it goes. Great video! Loved the dramatic slow-mo.

  2. If that type of egg noodles is unavailable, a thin pasta noodle like angel hair, thin spaghetti or thin linguine is a good substitute. Cook according to package instructions, then drain and rinse because the excess starch will make the chow mein gooey. I learned that the hard way 🙁

  3. Yum that looks fandabbysdozy Keef, 😎Deffo having a try at this recipe as since watching your videos I've stocked up on lots of the stuff in your vids 🙂, In fact I've just been sowing seeds of almost all those fresh ingredients in the greenhouse this morning.
    Thank you Sir.

  4. Looks delicious Keef! 😀Had something similar yesterday but instead of noodles, it was rice with the pork and veg dish served separately. Btw love the way you integrate bits of music into your videos 😎👍
