Soften the butter and put it in a bowl along with the sugar, vanilla and eggs and whisk to a creamy consistency.
Add the flour, baking powder, a pinch of salt and the milk and fold together.

Put the mixture into a cake tin and bake for 20mins at 180c / 356f / Gas Mark 4.
