Slow Cooker Pork and Sauerkraut Recipe – New Years Day Luck!

In some regions it’s thought that if you eat Pork and Sauerkraut on New Years day you’ll have luck in the coming year. We think the real reason people eat this is because it tastes so good.
Recipe Ingredients
1 (4 pound) pork roast (we like shoulder or butt)
1 teaspoon caraway seeds
salt and pepper to taste
2 cups sauerkraut with liquid

Directions
Cut pork loin, if necessary, to fit in the slow cooker.
Season with caraway seeds, and salt and pepper to taste.
Pour sauerkraut over the roast.
Cook on High for 1 hour, then cook on Low for 5 to 6 hours.
Internal temperature of the roast should be at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C).

  1. actually I think people eat pork roast and kraut on New Years because it makes you crap, clean your system out for the New Year. This is what I've always been told. I come from an area of the USA where 99% of us will be eating this meal tomorrow, western Pennsylvania.
