America’s Test Kitchen is a real 2,500 square foot test kitchen located just outside of Boston that is home to more than three dozen full-time cooks and product testers. Our mission is simple: to develop the absolute best recipes for all of your favorite foods. To do this, we test each recipe 30, 40, sometimes as many as 70 times, until we arrive at the combination of ingredients, technique, temperature, cooking time, and equipment that yields the best, most-foolproof recipe.
Each week, the cast of America’s Test Kitchen brings the recipes, testings, and tastings from Cook’s Illustrated magazine to life on our public television series. With more than 2 million viewers per episode, we are the most-watched cooking show on public television.
More than 1.3 million home cooks rely on Cook’s Illustrated and Cook’s Country magazines to provide trusted recipes that work, honest ratings of equipment and supermarket ingredients, and kitchen tips.

the paper file folder is very abrasive, almost like sandpaper, and can superficially scratch your knife blade.
Simple. Practical. Frugal. Thank you.
Did used a folder but too thin, knife cut through after a couple of use.
So brilliant
finna send this to the mandem thank you
Very good idea, many thanks! I'm going camping, so I will use plastic sheets instead for water proofing.
This is so easy and simple! Thank you
Wow amazing 💞
Check out the Stodoys plans if you want to make it better.
Used this trick a couple times at this point. Thanks for this vid!
my knife will just cut this through the crease xD I'm making a leather sleeve 🙂
Anyone else from London?
rice.
Thank you.
that $5 case is only good for victorinox 6' and 8' chef knifes. stay away from the magnetic knife guards at amazon, they rust and knifes slide in them.
I have done these with cardboard and duck tape. I was looking for plastic or something. Can't you use a thin flexible cutting sheet and a hot air gun to shape it?
This is amazingly practical!!
Why didn't I think of this?
HI-tech
That voice makes my ears bleed. Cannot listen to it.
I agree with Scott. I thought the video title said "How to make a homemade knife" because it reads like that on the thumbnail. LOL.
On the America's Test Kitchen account, the video name had the word "protector" chopped off the end. Now that would have been something.
If you want a thicker protector you can also use a cereal box
mind=blown
This is a good tip, but just to be clear — that "expensive" blade safe she mentioned in the beginning costs about $5 on Amazon.
Excellent. I've purchased $5 knife holders repeatedly. Not no more. Just a great idea here.
i wonder if prisoners can see this.
The presenter was very clear and concise. Very well done.
