Finally. I struggled for 20 minutes to open a stupid salsa jar for my nachos and I used the rubber band trick and it finally opened.

for the plastic foil, insert it a bit under the lid and tap it. Instantly worked for me
Wow!!! thank you I almost broke my wrist trying to open these hearts of palm!!!! I had to hit the top and use a rubber glove combo method!!! SAVED ME about to abandon my vegan crab cakes!
I tried about 8 times to open a jar of beets, to no avail. I tried the rubber glove, elastic, whacking the lid, turning it upside down and whacking the bottom…none worked. I took a fork and stuck it under the edge of the lid, where there are little indents, and the lid popped and the seal broke and I was able to open it right after!
Use a table spoon to pry the lid and release the seal.
Had a can of peaches from Costco with a tricky lid – hot water trick worked!
