The Best Chinese Style Slow Cook Pork Shoulder Recipe



Today, we will try a slow cook Chinese-style pork shoulder recipe. Many of you liked my Roasted pork shoulder recipe (叉烧). Today we will cook the pork shoulder in a different yet simple way.

📌Ingredients:
❣️1kg pork shoulder
❣️40ml of Chinese rice wine
❣️40ml of light color soy sauce
❣️20ml of dark color soy sauce
❣️2 tablespoons of sugar syrup or sugar
❣️1 teaspoon of salt
❣️1 cinnamon stick
❣️2 star-anise
❣️5 slices of ginger
❣️3 white parts of spring onions
❣️1 bay leaf
❣️15 to 20 Chinese Sichuan peppercorns

📌Cooking steps:
Wash the pork shoulder, put it into a pot, and cover it with cold water;
Bring the water to boil at medium to high heat. Skim off the foam from the surface;
Add all the seasonings to the pot and bring it to boil again;
Cover the pot with a lid and simmer for one hour to 75 minutes. Turn the pork shoulder once halfway;
Take out the boiled pork shoulder from the pot, and let it down for 30 minutes. You may put it in the refrigerator if you want it to cool down faster.
Slice the pork to serve.

Note:
1. The sliced pork is even better when served cold in the summer. You can make a sauce with a mixture of crushed garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and chilli sauce.
2. You can use the liquid you used to cook the pork shoulder to make noodle soup.
