you can make a pickle with the turmeric rhizome. warm some sesame oil, add red chilli powder to it and switch off the heat. add the sliced turmeric rhizome, salt and lemon juice to the oil+chilli powder mixture and the pickle is ready
If you are a tumeric fanatic, it is best to buy in one to two pound bags for around $6-9 per pound compared to $4 for 2.2 to 3 oz. Anyone have a favorite brand for the bulk stuff?
It's a big deal if it's full of lead
Bs I think McCormack turmeric has a horrible taste . It will ruin any dish
As an I dian, we just buy the package at the indian store.
Turmeric in milk is an indian hone remedy for coughing.
I have only ever used turmeric for color (my answer to the question 'why bother?') With so many varieties with discernible flavors I'd think picking the mildest one for color would be the safest way to go
Just hit up the Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi or Asian supermarket and you'll get it at a lower price, for sure.
I have always used whatever was cheap or Trader Joe’s. I bought the simply organic one because I needed to get enough in my cart for delivery and I was SHOOCKED. It is filled with flavor and a beautiful scent and I had no idea my turmeric was suppose to be that way!
I'm wary of all turmeric now after finding out they sometimes add leaded coloring to give it its color.
We have a new Indian store across from favorite health store in Youngstown. They have my business.
QUESTION: At a high-priced health food grocery store, I recently saw a product (I think it was tea or a latte mix, but honestly I can't remember) that boasted "activated turmeric" and included black pepper as the activating ingredient. What exactly does "activated" mean in this context? Is it for real, or just another bogus health claim that comes with an expensive price tag?
Try to find it fresh and just use a micro grater. The powdered stuff is consistent but bland compared to fresh, sort of the way fresh ginger is so different from the powdered.
Love these taste test. thanks
Fun Fact: Simply Organic & Frontier Co-Op are own by the Same Compy.
This was very helpful for me since it is also used in some Peruvian dishes. We use it mainly to add color so ours are usually not the spicy tumerics.
Very interesting, thank you 🙋🇵🇪
I get bigger quantities from a middle eastern/Indian store. Jiva organics brand is the best I’ve found and it’s super strong.
check out Turmeric's health benefits online…got a mile long list…speaking figuratively of course !!!
Turmeric tastes earthy aka dirt. I buy Swaad brand from Jungle Jims.
What about the version sold in Costco? Is it a good purchase?
I liked it before it was a super good. To me it’s a subtle musky taste which is so different from other spices.
We Persians literally start half of our dishes with onions and turmeric. If you want something different just fry up onion and turmeric and add chicken . Serve it over rice!
Ehh
I wish they would actually cover more brands. So annoying when the one you usually get isn't even mentioned.
Spice Island is good, and was always easy to find, but I always use the bottle too fast. Forget the $4 bottle. Go to an Indian store for a $1 bag!
Turmeric form Hindustan.
I've always thought Bridget had a nice spice rack.
If you’re using turmeric for its health benefits make sure it’s not contaminated with lead (turmeric grown In Bangladesh scores really high). Turmeric needs to be combined with pepper and fat to be a absorbed. Fresh turmeric, and capsules are better than powder. Too much turmeric can deplete iron
In case they fail to mention: When used in milk, the milk must be whole milk
I bought Organic Tumeric on Amazon, direct from India. Cheap too
What drives me crazy is you mention the great products that aren’t available in Canada. Is it possible to suggest anything that can be bought in Canada 🤓🇨🇦
Do you have a recomendation for ginger and cinnamon?
Neighborhood grocery store: $12
Indian grocery store: $3
Same quality
Why didn't you try Penzey's spices?
For a health supplement, check out Meriva curcumin. Much more bioavailable than regular curcumin. But you have to use it for a couple weeks to really have an effect on inflammation.
I enjoy the mildness of the McCormick it’s kind of floral and sweet smelling
Awesome

Turmeric , cream , coffee. or turmeric , butter, coffee. Two of my favorites . Organic is everything to me.
I want to see Jack Bishop in a bad mood.
Bring back Christopher Kimball!! Since he left ATK your show is unwatchable!!
You never answered the million dollar question! Is it pronounced toomeric or turmeric?
The Soup Nazi's spicy chicken noodle soup gets it's distinct flavor from a lot of turmeric .
