Still haven’t found a proper video explaining how exactly this grill work. Just saying. 😬. I’m confused on how it burns…like from bottom up?
I'd like to know you're thoughts on the old country gravity fed. The price is similar to the Masterbuilt XT. I've used an 18 in WSM for 13 years now and I want to upgrade to a gravity fed.

That Brisket looked mighty dry and no smoke ring mallard effect at all. Is that thing a slow and low smoker or a blast furnace? My pitboss is double walled insulated, has 5 vertical racks holds 5 to 10 medium sized briskets. Or a combination. I looked at the masterbuilt . Just didn’t like the design!
Great intro to this new product. A concern I have is about the warranty… MB has a horrendous reputation with customer service. It's great the warranty is 3-yrs but if you can't get anything out of them but @$$ pain then the warranty is neither here/there. Let's hope they're working on fixing that part of the equation. Oh – Brisket cook please!
No ELECTRIC pellet smoker will save you in a freeze or power outage due to a disaster.. the more MEN use electric and new EASY LAZY TECHNOLOGIES they become Less than boys and become WOMEN using an oven outside.. 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻 WOOD, FIRE, AND PATIENCE.. Nothing worth bragging about, nor does it take a lot of talent to press a button to an electric outside oven…

3 weeks waiting for a response from support ⛔
Bought my XT this past summer, when it's worked it's been great. However when it arrived, I couldn't get it to power on.
Only support is my email and it took weeks to get a response. The first part they sent me didn't fix the issue so had to wait another support cycle to get the right part.
All in all, I waited almost a month for my first cook.
Middleby, the parent company of both Masterbuilt and Kamado Joe, need to get their act together with providing better support.
James, how is the overall build quality on this compared to tne previous models? The build quality was my major complaint on the first models. There was a lot of really flimsy sheet metal and the wiring of the electronics looked like a child had designed it. They do make amazing tasting food but i just couldnt recommemd them because i didnt expect them to last long.
Besides your first cook, please include you actually cleaning this unit after the cook. Thanks.
I appreciate the effort and insight here but I've fixed all of these issues with my pellet grill. So what did I do? For inability to reach sear temp, I use a Rectec 380X Bullseye which easily gets to 950 degrees and close to 1,000 depending on the weather. For lack of smoke flavor in pellet grills, I use only Post Oak pellets. It actually creates TOO much smoke flavor and, depending on what I'm smoking, I many times have to mix with regular pellets to dial down the smoke. And lastly for that 10 to 20% moisture in wood verses pellets, I spritz my pellets with water just before using. There you go. Done. All the benefits of a stick burner with a pellet grill. And I dare you to tell the difference. You can't because as a 30 year stick burner, I have already done the side by side comparison.
I’ve been looking at this brand and type of smoker for a while now. I’ve seen a lot of people on BBQ forums complaining about poor electronics and hopper fires. Would like to see if you have any concerns about those issues.
your prejudice against pellet grills is obvious. When people are asking you how to fix there smokers, you should tell them to get a lone star with good pellets and their wood chips.
How long will it cook with a full hopper and set to 250°??
I'm excited to see some cooks on this new beast to see how it can compare! I would love to see a head to head with the XT vs the Kamado Joe vs the pellet grill!
Thanks for the video. I purchased an older model and returned it. I had problems with the blue tooth and I found it to be difficult and tedious to clean. Customer service is horrible. I tried to purchase additional items and accessories and it was such a bad experience I returned everything. It is owned by very large company. The cooking Experience and food was very good. I hope they fixed the problems I experienced.

I have a gravity smoker but the Char-Griller version. Had it for a few years and it really makes my BBQ better than when I used a regular offset. It really is a gamechanger. I suggest the Char-Griller version or Masterbuilt. Eben though I don't have the Masterbuilt I seen the reviews which is good also.
Brisket is the golden standard, soooo. Also, you changed me from a pellet grill (I still use it for whole chickens when time is an issue) to a Kamado Joe Kettle Grill that I have found somewhat disappointing, so most recently, I acquired a Kamado Joe Big Joe-II I got for a song (still learning how to use it). So far, I find it far superior over both the pellet and Kettle Joe grills. Thanks for all the great content!
I was thinking about getting one, but when I looked at them on sale this year every one of them had rust on them in the store.
As someone who owns both an 800 and a 1050, this was a great video for me. I wanted the XT to be a lot bigger,hssc pconsidering the price, but the idea it is more effective spacing is a plus.
I have had my XT for about a month now, and man am I satisfied. I have done smoked flank steak (for fajitas), chicken breast, and most recently smoked pork tenderloin. The grill actually goes all the way down to 150°. The smoke flavor permeates the meat so much better than my previous pellet smoker (Oaklahoma Joe Rider DLX). I think you should change it up and do some smoked wild caught Sockeye (Red) salmon for your competition/comparison smoke
I have an auto kamado and been having issues with my sensor and computer system. Have to replace it. I am very interested in getting this. Thanks Joe Go bills
