The French Onion Pasta You’ve Been Missing!
Happy New Year everyone, I’m back in the kitchen! Today I have this French Onion Pasta with Gruyère Breadcrumbs that brings the cosy, comforting flavours of French onion soup into a pasta dish. The caramelised onions provide a deep, rich sweetness, balanced by a creamy cheese sauce and crunchy garlic breadcrumbs. It’s indulgent yet sophisticated, perfect for an elegant dinner or a hearty treat. The Gruyère cheese adds a nutty complexity, making every bite irresistible. Kenji sends his regards, Enjoy!

This Chef’s Knife is a versatile, (13.7″ / 35cm) all-purpose tool crafted for a range of kitchen tasks, from slicing tender chicken to cutting through firm beef with precision. Its moderate blade length and light weight make it comfortable for everyday use, whether you’re chopping herbs or tackling tougher cuts of meat. The knife’s lightness is easy on the wrist, which is ideal for longer prep sessions.
“I’ve been using this artisanal Japanese steel knife for a few weeks now, and here’s my take. It’s beautifully crafted, making it a great gift option. The knife feels quite light, which many home cooks might appreciate, though I personally think a slightly heavier handle would improve balance. The steel isn’t as strong as my German knives, but it sharpens up quickly and easily, and I find myself reaching for it often. It is a bit pricey, but that’s expected with Japanese steel. If you’re interested, I have an affiliate link—I’ll earn a small commission at no extra cost to you, in fact with coupon code above, you can save 20% at present. There’s nothing better than Gruyère and caramelized onions on grilled bread or pasta!
Chef Joel, I just followed this recipe of yours to a T, we had two guests this weekend, so I made this – it was absolutely delicious!! Everyone totally loved it! I subscribed to this dudes channel because he got some pasta dishes that will blow your mind. I tried his canned salmon pasta and OHMYGAWD. I have to have it once a week now. I tried it with canned tuna too. Absolutely amazing. I think that dog is helping him cook these dishes though
Left over wine?
If you are going to have repetitive background music with one chord sequence repeated ad nauseum, it’s better to have extended jazz chords.

Ciao and thank you for this delicious recipe, which i like to share at bluesky, as a german/italian i love pasta, some days ago i've cooked a spicy Pastasauce for 2-3 days with white beans, much garlic and chili.. many greetings from brunswick in germany..🙃
I’d eat that
I have never heard of this book or the author, but I find your commentary on it very intriguing. The way you talked about natural pacing and quiet moments really resonated with me. I will add this to my list. Thank you sir.
Where can I purchase the countertop two burner that you’re using thanks in advance
This looks awesome, i could almost smell it while watching the video! Ive recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes so i really should avoid pasta, but damn im still going to make this 😂
I thought of this recipe for lunch today. I am Czech and I must say that it perfectly matches the conditions of our Central European cuisine, which was influenced by Austria and France. I would have the following use for the sauce. A great solution for stewed chicken. Chicken, preferably its parts, fry sharply in oil with butter, first on the skin side. Then pour water, salt and let it stew until the meat falls off the bone. Remove and proceed as in this recipe. I add caramelized onions, etc. We Czechs do not eat spaghetti, but dumplings. Since meat will soon be a luxury in Central Europe due to the cattle plague, I love this recipe and am including it in my diet!
Don't understand. You made two different dishes?
1. Pasta with creamy sauce
2. Pasta with sweet onion confit and cheesy Panko crumble
Thank you so very much 🙏❤❤❤
Hello 😊
So happy to see you ❤
Amazing dish 👌💯💯💯🥰🥰🥰
Wheat products are pre poison to our species.
I'm so friggin hungry for this right now.
Definitely gonna attempt this soon for a lady I know, will have a trial run before that though haha.
Onions AND cheese? I'm listening.
Suspiciously little butter for a french recipe but the dog looks trustworthy so I'll give it a shot…
😋😋😋delicious! Thank you!🫵🏽👍🏽
you lost me at chicken stock and cream :/
My French onion gave up and became sour kraut 😂😂
GASP>> When I saw the left over sparkling wine go in I was SHOCKED. How is it possible to wine left over????
You're not going to keep having a nice Dutch oven if you keep using metal tongs in it.
