INGREDIENTS:
• 3 cups whole wheat flour (
• 1 1/2 cup warm water
• 1 tbsp active dry yeast
• 1 tsp salt (
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 10 min until the mixture becomes frothy.
2. Add the whole wheat flour and salt to the bowl with the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 min until it becomes smooth and elastic.
4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1.5-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air bubbles and shape it into a round loaf.
6. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Place a Dutch oven with its lid on in the oven while it preheats.
7. Once the oven and Dutch oven are preheated, carefully remove the hot Dutch oven from the oven using oven mitts.
8. Transfer the shaped dough into the hot Dutch oven. Be careful not to burn yourself.
9. Score the top of the dough with a sharp knife or razor blade to allow for expansion during baking.
10. Cover the Dutch oven with its lid and place it back in the oven.
11. Bake the bread covered for 30 min. Then, remove the lid and bake for an additional 10 min, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
12. Once baked, carefully remove the bread from the Dutch oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.

How to make without oven
Made this with Bob's Red Mill bread flour (didn't have any whole wheat laying around). The Dutch oven is a game changer. The crust and texture are similar to a sourdough loaf, nice and crusty on the outside and slightly chewy on the inside. Next time I'll try it with the whole wheat, or maybe a 50/50 loaf:)
Useless video without measurements of ingredients
So I'm litterly making this bread as I type this and I get to the part where I'm waiting for the Yeast and water to froth up, and nothing is happening. I see that you're not using 1 1/2 c water in the video, but it's stated in the recipe. I've been having flops with recipes I'm trying out and I rather not waste anymore flour, so PLEASE, is the water amount correct?
Thank you!
very dense recipe

Can i use a plastic wrap for covering the dough?
