I’ll bet them direct grilled pork rib be full of flavour.
Position the grill so that the wind is at your back, which minimizes your exposure to smoke. And after you finish grilling, give your nose a good blow before you sit down to eat. That will clear out the smoke particles that were deposited on your nasal receptors and improve your sense of taste.
Man I’m glad you talked about this because I have bbq and everybody ate and I didn’t have a taste for it 😂 after the cook
I totally agree, I never eat after grilling. Or cooking inside, either it's hours later. Or the next day, and I love leftovers, the flavor seems more enhanced. Like soup does after a day or two.
I did notice with a recent chicken cook. I wonder if it would be the same for burgers. I usually do a 2 zone setup where I'll smoke for about 20 minutes then sear.
The olfactory senses wear down. That’s why I smoke a cigar when I grill because my palette is gone. Raw ginger can reset the nasal and taste buds.
I agree, I have the same issue’s after a long day of cooking for a pop up, a gathering, a competition, or family. I have to have someone sample the Que and tell me if the product is acceptable, because I normally will not eat it that day. I have used my method of cooking for so long and know pretty much what the results are going to taste like, much like cooking in a restaurant, you don’t taste every dish you send out of the kitchen.
Many times I've had this happen to me Keith after grilling while she stayed in the house. I'd say the meat doesn't have as much smoke or charcoal flavor and she'd say it did to her. I had no idea. Thanks Keith.
Great points. I never realized our taste buds get dull because of the smoke I just stop sitting next to the grills and smokers while they're cooking for long periods of time cuz I realized it's bad for us. But yes the sauces and seasonings do get to settle in food overnight which makes food taste better the next day.
Absolutely. I've been telling my wife this for a few months now ever since I started grilling everyday. The leftovers always taste better. I was also thinking I might have something to do with the flavors resting in and getting stronger in the fridge, but… This makes more sense.
Yes sir! I have been noticing this for years! Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I will try some of the tips you mentioned to "reset my palate" before sitting down to enjoy the fruits of my labor. Thanks for another great video.
I can't taste my BBQ cuz my wife eats it all.
