this stuff is literally cat food
Fish filter our polluted waters through their gills every second of their lives–eating them is like eating a really old Brita filter–no thanks.
I wish you guys measured mercury content for each brand.
White tuna has higher levels of mercury than light in general. This is an issue not mentioned in the video. If you eat a lot of tuna or are pregnant it’s advised to use light tuna.
Also in 2018 the three largest processors of tuna (not the winners) were found guilty of price fixing. Ever wonder why the prices are so close from the big three?
I find it incredible that after reading and watching all these reviews, not one has all of the most popular tunas that are in every regular supermarket – Starkist, Bumble Bee, and Chicken of the sea. Those 3 brands have been around for over 60 years and have accounted for over 95% of the sales of canned tuna. The fact that these 3 don't appear on reviews, leads me to believe that these reviews are paid for by the manufacturers. The 3 listed above don't need to pay for reviews. That have been around linger than the people that are reviewing them.
Why is tuna so expensive in the US
DO CANNED CHICKEN NEXT!
respectfully lol
Any BPA free canned tuna?
I'd trust Jack to sell me tuna in a boot. Probably my favorite presenter in the medium of food.
I eat it right out of the can.:)
What is this …someone is randomly asking the tuna if they’re less stressed being caught in a net on a pole? Give me a break I’m moving on
Which of those tunas are best if I am making a thermometer.
Genova packed in olive oil has become my goto. To me, it seems milder in flavor than the Tonino.
I buy Genova packed in olive oil at my local Market Basket. It's all solid tuna, almost nothing to drain, so you get your money's worth. Cheaper brands have bits and pieces swimming in oil or water.
Hi. How about choosing Chunk Light that's using smaller tuna for less mercury ? thx
i love this show and ms lancaster is like a treat for the eyes ..
the healthiest tuna is in water right?
What about Blue Harbor?
When I make tuna salad, I make it w/ 50/50 Aldi brand pole-caught skipjack and whole chunk white tuna packed in water. With the mayonnaise, minced onion and pickles, and spices, its damn near perfect. But I'll have to check out the recommended oil-packed brands and see how they stack up.
My favorite is tuna ( albacore) with apple and avocado, Mix with a small amount of mayo and eat with a good stone ground cracker.
Packets…what about packets?
I live in a small town and the grocers around here just don't carry most of the stuff they love on this show and that includes tuna . There's a lot of tuna but none are the higher end ones. I think Starkist is the only one.
Once you try the $10 tuna you will never go back to the $2 tuna. I guarantee. Save up. Go with the $10.
I grew up with tuna packed in oil. I hated tuna packed in water, but my mom never gave that to us. It wasn't until later on that I even knew it existed. My mom would put it on two slices of bread and pack it for my school lunch sometimes. No miracle whip, no pickles, no onions, and no eggs. We would have tuna salad sandwiches on Saturdays or summer days while we were at home. Because our cold lunch sat at the back of the classroom until lunch time, she only put tuna on the bread, and by the time I would eat it, that oil had seeped into the bread, and honestly, it was the best thing ever! I would get it with Pringles, plane chips, or corn chips. I like tuna salad also, but we did not use mayonnaise, only miracle whip! Also, chopped sweet pickles, chopped sweet onion, and boiled eggs. Same types of chips with it!
tonnino is generally great, but there are variations in dryness from batch to batch. the surest bet is tonnino in a jar.
Jack rules.
Tonino is expensive, but life changing. I wait for it to go on sale and stock up.
Jack please have your Thyroid checked by a doctor!
I have Hypothyroidism, you might have Hyperthyroidism!
The tuna that you are suggesting is much higher in Mercury and price. And how many people actually give a damn about how humane the tuna are caught?? What you are suggesting is that people spend much more money on tuna then what they have to. Chunk light tuna in water is the most healthiest tuna to purchased and the cheapest, as far as price per can. Tuna packed in olive oil….. who the heck do you think you're speaking to man?? Your rich friends??
I’m buying tuna treats for my senior cat & they are ridiculously expensive. I tried giving her packaged tuna, but she’s not that crazy over. I’m going to try your olive oil recommendations. Maybe we’ll both like…
The best tuna is Rio Mare!
This dude has ZERO credibility, I'll never trust anything he says again. He made no mention at all about how dangerous the mercury in the tuna is. If you are still eating tuna today, you might as well sprinkle poison in your sandwich, and then mix it with American rice since they all have arsenic in them, and make a tuna and rice cancer casserole. Mercury is a poison that builds up in tuna, and should not be given to children, adults, or pregnant women. If you doubt this call your library and ask to read Consumer Reports magazine on rice and tuna. I wonder how much the tuna association paid this guy to do this happy piece. What a waste of truth.
We in italy discovered the olive oil tuna ages ago!!!! I live in Canada now and olive oil tuna is very expensive and very small quantities
As usual about half the brands featured are not found here in the Midwest, even in the largest stores
Jack, based on this video, I purchased "StarKist E.V.O.O. Solid Yellowfin Tuna in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 4.5 Oz" , "Kirkland Albacore Solid White Tuna in water, 7oz" and "Chicken of the Sea 'Chunk Light" in water, 7oz".
I tried all three straight from the can. I then made a "Tuna Salad" mix with each and tried them on Iceberg Lettuce" leaves. The "Starkist EVOO Solid Yellowfin was delicious plain and in Tuna Salad. Both water based tunas were poor (and that's being kindly).
You were right!!! "StarKist E.V.O.O. Solid Yellowfin Tuna in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 4.5 Oz – Wild Caught" will be my only tuna from now on. My experiment could save your viewers a good bit of time and expense and buy only "OIL BASED Canned YELLOWFIN Tuna!!
I discovered, the good stuff last summer but got gout from eating so much of it
