  1. I initially assumed that these units burned propane for the heat. However, it seems I am wrong and would it be correct thinking to assume that they use the burning of the pellets to create the heat, and the pellets are ignited from the hot rod which is 110V AC powered?

  2. I googled till my eyes bled, to see if could find anything to tell me if I do a BURN IN with the Flame Tamer OPEN or CLOSED. Found nothing, but, I see yours is closed, so, I'm doing mine closed.

  3. Not sure what PID is but the reason this grill won’t hold the temperature good is because it all escapes from the back ,way to many vents to hold temperatures desired.I covered mine with a piece of sheet metal and put a smoke stack the I can open and close. And it’s alott better it holds temperatures within 5 degrees give or take .

  4. Hi Top I know this an old video but I just bought an expert grill commodore myself. I have problems with the temperature on this grill and I now see why ( temp gauge placement on the unit ). I've seen you do some mods on it, ever think about centering the gauge on unit (moving it towards the center)

  5. Can you go through the start up. I turned. It on, I set it on 180 and the temp keeps dropping. The prime light is grey and has 2 red lights on, the fan is on, the. Spinning thing is closed and the lid is closed. I just need it to stay 180 consistently. Am I doing something wrong ? Thank you for you time. Jimmy in Florida

  6. $195, did you get it on sale? I see it for $317 at my walmart.. i went with the Pitboss Austin XL because they had it in stock and it was $51 more than the Classic 700 pitboss which was out of stock.

I had a 9 year old Chargriller offset i gave to a friend when i moved outta state and i have a Cuisinart vertical propane smoker thats nice. Payed like $170 for it but now living in TN in Fall and Winter they get bought up quick and the exchanges are $25 a pop.. i like my vertical propane and decided to add the pitboss to my arsenal. The older I get the less I wana baby sit my grills.. just assembled mine and did my initial burn in, tomorrow hopefully get some actual food on this thing.

Anyways i was rambling and actually looking for the grill expert pellet reviews since they were about $6 for a 20lb bag. I aint tryin to pay $20 a bag if the expert grill gives good results.

  7. I think it does have a PID controller. So PID stands for Proportianal, Integral, and Derivative. The proportional value just tells it's output how much to correct, like if its under temp it should dump more pellets. The integral value is time-based, i.e if its under the temp, every 5 seconds increase the amount of pellets you are dumping in on top of the P value. Typically the derivative isn't used in these situations because it isn't a super precise process. The P, I, and D are all adjustable, so depending on how they set them at factory, it could use a tuning to get it to adjust better.

  8. This is my first pellet grill, and I would appreciate your input on one aspect of it. I found that after three uses, the daisy wheel was seized with crud. I would rather have a solid sheet steel drip pan. With your knowledge of various grills, do you know if a better drip pan from another grill would fit, even if some grinding were required? Thanks!

  9. Seems pretty decent for the price! I paid 700 for my first trager and that was second hand. It retailed at 1300!
I’m a little skeptical of that wheel in the grease pan. I think that could be a pathway for grease getting to the fire.
