Traditional Sri Lankan Dessert Recipe

Watalappan is a traditional Sri Lankan dessert that is rich, creamy, and spiced with a delightful mix of flavors. It is rooted in the island’s cultural heritage, especially among the Tamil and Muslim communities served during festive occasions, such as religious holidays and weddings.
The main ingredients include jaggery, which gives the dessert its distinctive dark brown color and rich sweetness, and coconut milk, which adds a luxurious creaminess. The use of eggs creates a smooth, custard-like consistency, while the spices contribute to the dessert’s unique flavor profile.
