Who has the Best BBQ in Texas?
Every four years, Texas Monthly’s barbecue editor leads an enormous effort to taste, review, and rank the top barbecue joints across the state. Each year, the task becomes more difficult as the landscape becomes more competitive. Texas Monthly barbecue editor Daniel Vaughn profiles three Top 50 Joints—Burnt Bean Co., Lavaca Barbecue, and Yearby’s Barbecue— in The State of BBQ: A Texas Monthly Special, now streaming on the PBS app.
In The State of BBQ: A Texas Monthly Special, barbecue editor Daniel Vaughn takes viewers behind the scenes of the Texas BBQ scene—profiling pitmasters, exploring iconic smokehouses, and revealing how the Top 50 BBQ Joints in Texas list is made.

Go Kelli! Pit Mistress!!
Lots of hate comments. Envious BBQ joints not getting any air time, I guess?
Love the to see the blue October. I have been making croissant sandwiches with ribeye steaks for a while now, so it's comforting to see other people use croissants, don't just have to be for coffee. Or basic pastries.
TM rotates its "best" list to keep content fresh and stay relevant as a media source. It's a game. Last year's #1 isn't worse than this year's — it didn't "fail' down the list. Choose who you want, there's plenty of great Texas BBQ out there.
another recommendation is 407 Smokehouse in Argyle (by the Texas Motor Speedway)…simply outstanding…
Texas doesn’t make Bbq they make Brisket.
Daniel, you’re becoming overexposed. And sides don’t matter. Remember, The County Line and The Salt Lick don’t care what you think. Stop eating bbq meats for a year and clean your palate.
Nobody takes greater pleasure in holding the future of mom and pop bbq joints in their hands than Daniel Vaughn. Dude wields his power across the land. I don’t own a place, never have but I share his love of the cuisine and I can tell you most of these joints roll their eyes when he walks in the door.
Identity over everything, including your country
'I get to talk to all these (liberal, lefty, personals of color) people..'
The bedt bbq? I wont tell anyone. I wsnt it allfor mydelf.
I do not believe in Best BBQ. There is only THE NEXT BBQ. Are you seriously telling me you pick ONE BBQ and never ever visit another BBQ joint? SERIOUSLY? I'm amazed your brain can work your mouth and/or fingers to even generate such an idiotic judgement – !!
Been doing a BBQ Tour of Texas for the past 7 of 10 years with my son for 6 of them. I put Louie Mueller #1 , unfortunately now closed Fargo’s Pit, Barbs.B.Q, Burnt Bean, Leroy & Lewis all tied #2, Interstellar #3, KG BBQ #4 and Goldees #5

Great places mentioned in the video but Daniel Vaughn is not. look up Johhny co owner from Goldees BBQ calling him out on how the list is rigged.
Hands down, Hard 8 BBQ next to the Uline DC in Dallas (Coppell). No question….
2M Smokehouse
The tamales look insane
The best BBQ I've every had was at Snow's in Lexington a few months ago. I got there at 5 AM and I was number 87 in line. It was worth every minute I waited.
