How did we put small slow cookers to the test?
COOKING:
We wanted perfect results on both low and high settings and in recipes with lots of sauce or very little. We made chicken thighs in a hearty tomato sauce, a recipe that has plenty of liquid and cooks on high for 3 to 4 hours. Next, we made smothered steaks for two, which braise for 4 to 5 hours on high with a moderate amount of liquid. Then, we ran an extreme test: sweet-and-sour sticky ribs for two. This dish cooks on low for 7 to 8 hours with very little moisture.
MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE:
We recorded the temperature of each cooker while heating 2½ quarts of water for 6 hours, first on high and then on low.
DESIGN:
We liked dishwasher-safe inserts with large, easy-to-grip handles. We compared the usability of manual versus digital programmable controls.
America’s Test Kitchen is the most-watched cooking show on public television—up to 2 million viewers watch each episode. The show is filmed in the test kitchen of Cook’s Illustrated magazine, located just outside Boston.
Each episode features recipes we’ve carefully developed to make sure they work every time. The test cooks solve everyday cooking problems, test equipment so you never have to waste money on things that don’t work, and taste supermarket ingredients to save you time in the store. It’s a common-sense, practical approach you won’t find on other cooking shows.

Is there an update to this 6 year old video?
The only thing missing from this very good review is the length of the AC cord.
is it possible to change the temperature from Fahrenheit to Celcius?
No! Bad dog! Small slow cookers hold 2 quarts or less, miss.
Here's a list that helped me out.

In the end, I went with #8.

What I really like about this pressure cooker do7.pl/Cooker is the fact that I can brown my meats first and then pressure cook them. Gravy can then be easily made when meat is done. It is “one stop shopping” for a meal. I purchased 3 thus far, including two for my two daughters. They just got theirs for their birthday and were quite excited. I am so glad that I chose Cuisinart. It is my favorite brand.
Seems more like a Cuisinart infomercial than a test kitchen. Two years later they recommend a 6 to 7 quart cooker and choose the Kitchenaid slow cooker.
Dear ATK, Was there an ATK review video in the last 2 years on multicookers, where the Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus won? I'm going nuts looking for it. Was it PULLED? And if so, WHY? I feel like I'm going nuts looking for it. Did I imagine this phantom video review?
Why is she angry?
sponsored much?
Wait a minute I just saw a Nother test kitchen video and you recommended KitchenAid slow cooker , I don’t get it?
This item got many terrible reviews on Amazon. It's Chinese junk with a poor quality teflon coating that chips and peels, even with gentle use. Read the reviews – Buyer beware!
I hate mine but am stuck with it.
Yeah, let me try out cooksillustrated [dot] com free for 14 days so that I can read the full review.
You'll be the first to know when I'm desperate. That's a free promise.
I'd like a slow cooker that is insulated, both to make the sides cool and safe to the touch, but also to keep heat in and reduce electricity consumption. Many slow cookers use more electricity to run than an electric oven because the heat pours straight out the hot metal sides. This review didn't address energy efficiency, which is a vital aspect these days as ordinary end-users in the kitchen try to reduce both their energy bills and carbon footprint.
It would be perfect if it had a ceramic insert
This girl is great, but what happened to Lisa?
Too much background noise. Sounds like it was recorded with on camera mic. Who messed up and did not turn on studio mic? lol
Thanks ATK … now I know which one to buy.
Where is Lisa?
Have had the 6 quart version for a couple years now, it's an amazing device.
love you guys
Maybe do a video on why you keep picking Cuisinart appliances.
I wonder what is wrong with the beautiful All-Clad slow cooker with ceramic insert (not Teflon) that, if I remember correctly, they recommended before on ATK? http://www.amazon.com/All-Clad-SD710851-Cooker-Ceramic-4-Quart/dp/B00M0FHUZG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1457409338&sr=8-2&keywords=all+clad+slow+cooker
She forgot (?) to mention that it has teflon coated aluminium pan inside. Info from Amazon. Who wants to eat food cooked in Teflon for 6 hrs? Not me.
