My favorite way to ignite charcoal is using the bag it comes in. Works perfectly every time and doesn’t cost any extra money!
I love chimney starters best invention brilliant
I had long since given up on my charcoal grill. Maybe I'll give it another chance…
Easy to understand advice..well done! I hadnt grilled in years & had forgotten about the chimney starters effectiveness ..thanks for the refresher info!
Ok, so I have an 150sq in portable. I fill my chimney with 50-60 coals since my grill is small. I wait 20-25 minutes for the coals to fully heat, and then I put them in the basin of my grill; I cover with top and bottom ports fully open while waiting 10-15 mins for the grill to reach cooking temperature, only to find most of the coals out with mainly the middle holding heat. What can I do to fix this? This like my 10th time trying to grill and I’m totally frustrated
Yes, I use tumble weeds as my ignitor, chimney starter and get perfect coals every time. If beginners are reading the comments, please stay away from charcoal lighter fluid, waste of money and you'll probably taste in your food. Great video for beginners, Panama City, Florida
All last summer (and warmer days in fall and winter) I had no problems getting and keeping my Weber kettle hot. Then we bought a Huntsman kettle with a Venom, I cant get it over 350 now. I think I need more fuel (charcoal) because that Huntsman has so much mass so we just bought a second charcoal chimney, I was using a full chimney filled to the top, I'm going to try two 3/4 full chimneys and see if that solves my problem.
I just figured out what I’ve been doing wrong. I need to get a NASA shirt and wear it during grilling events. I mean, that grill should be NASA hot, yes?
There were several times in the past where I was lit properly before the coals.
Thanks Tom. Very helpful. I do wish you had touched on the vent settings. I’m a rookie, and don’t know how to set lid and kettle vents.
Thank you. It’s a really helpful video.
Thank you. Very informative and helpful.
Exactly right. The weber charcoal holders are key because they hold a lot of charcoal layered. I use 3 and the grill gets 550 degrees when lid is closed. I cook indirect and it's perfect.
We cook our bacon in the microwave on newsprint covered in paper towels. The newsprint absorbs the bacon fat. Then we use the newsprint to ignite our charcoal. Reusing instead of tossing in the garbage.
OK, this was surprisingly useful
Ancient technology. Ditch those old Webers. Charchol begins cooling as soon as it is white.
PROPANE!
Paper towel soaked in vegetable oil always works just fine for me without a chimney or other igniter.
Battery powered leaf blower and she is ready to sear in about 8 minutes (or less).
Great video and really helpful.. I’m using Webber briquettes and as soon as I pour them onto the bbq from the chimney they die down… thought my airflow was good but 🤔
i bought one yesterday and man did i fail, either i didnt have enough coal or i waited too long. i dont have a chimney to heat it up…
Very helpful video.
grilln or bbq. they aint the same. it is good that you are going to try to attempt.
