I just found your channel, the first video, Valentina's, the second M&M. I like your story telling. I lived in Lockhart back in the mid '80s when I was kid. I don't remember much but I remember being there in Lockhart for Texas' sesquicentennial and all the happenings around the courthouse, even then that town had a lot of history. I was too young to remember which bbq we ate at but I remember the sausage. I never had it again after we left Lockhart but I never forgot it.
I lived in Lockhard while I was in elementary school. I attended Plum Creek Elementary. My teacher's name was Mr. Royal. I don't remember what grade I was in, maybe 3rd-5th grade area. We used to take "Field Trips" to Smitty's BBQ with a few other teachers and their classes. It was an experience that I have remembered throughout my entire life and has fostered a passion for great BBQ. I'm 37 now and live about an hour away. We're heading to Smitty's this weekend so I can take my kids for the first time. Thank you, Mr. Royal, for introducing me to Smittys!

I met Roy Perez at Kruez meat market back in 2021. He was a polite, nice, and humble person. We talked for about an hour and he gave me the best advice about being a pit master. His advice to was it wasn't about being the best in BBQ but always taking out of the day to speak with customers. He asked me how I flipped my briskets and I told him. He showed a way to flip briskets faster and let me practice on a few that he was smoking. Before I left he told me that I was the 2nd person in his whole career at Kruez to flip one of his briskets. I felt honored. I keep a picture that we took in my office and I get happy Everytime I look at it because he smiling in it. He a great person and my favorite pit master

I love barbecue, but the story behind it comes from the heart. I guess that’s what makes it so good.
Kreuz Market is still some of the best barbecue I've had in my 31 years of life as a native Texan. When I tried it, all they had was the shoulder and sausage everything else was sold out for the day. The shoulder was better than any brisket I have had and the sausage was so good it turned me into a smoked sausage lover. Absolutely no sauce is needed.

EXCELLENT documentary!! I've eaten at both places, in one day LOL. Both were delicious, but honestly the new Kreuz Market was less expensive, which I really liked. I never knew the full story of where I had been. Now, I have to go back, to both … probably in one day. 😜
