Will Kansas City Dethrone Texas BBQ For Me?

What’s up, fam! This is my first, real proper bbq tour in Kansas City. I’ve been super excited about doing this because I’ve only really eating Texas bbq for quite some time. If Kansas City is gonna change my mind, there would be no better time than now! Hope you guys enjoy the video!

  1. Loved this episode, it felt like I was right there with you! Ive always been into bbq’ing, but more serious for the past few years. In terms of bbq history I’m a novice and this was super informative. Being from California, Im more inclined now, to research cali bbq history after watching this. Another stellar vid, thank you Joe 🍻

  2. I grew up the KC way eating and smoking. I’ve had the Memphis and Carolina way. I’m with you on the central Texas way all the way now. It’s why I ordered a pit from down there and am about to get it. Thanks for video

  3. Joe,
Great and respectful view of KC BBQ!
Interestingly, Daniel Vaughn was not impressed with KC BBQ places, but did say it is due for a renaissance!
Robert Moss of Southern Living Magazine in his top 50 Southern BBQ places listed two KC places: LC’s BarB-que at #35 and Arthur Bryant’s at #14. He highlights the whole experience, as opposed to Vaughn who is just rating the food given to him.
I would be most interested in having KC competition bbq.
Neither you or Jeremy showed much of the kind of pits these places are using. Are they using offsets or some other kinds?
    Keep up the great work!👍

  4. I'm with you Joe. I'm from Santa Maria, CA where people are die-hard about Santa Maria style bbq but that doesn't mean that you should limit yourself to just one style. The real ones know what's up.

  5. We opened Mule Kicker BBQ this weekend in Warrensburg, MO, about 50 miles SE of Kansas City. I'd put our Central Texas-style barbeque and sides up against any BBQ restaurant in KC or TX. And much of our technique is thanks to you and other caring masters sharing the journey. And the opening was sensational!

  6. Loved you showing the history and why you chose the places y'all did. Bbq is different depending on where you're from, but in the end, it's all meat, smoke, and maybe a sauce. Also love seeing you, Jeremy and Brad team up so much. You all bring something different to us as viewers but mesh so well together.

  7. I'm so glad I am subscribed to your channel. This older NC fellow here has a lot of respect for your passion and always-excellent content on all things BBQ. We can all learn from one another in all regions of the US. I'm looking forward to the next video.
