Working with Ina Garten Taught Lidey Heuck This Important Skill | In The Test Kitchen

Today, Lidey Heuck sits down in the Test Kitchen to talk with Dan Souza and Morgan Bolling about her new cookbook “Cooking in Real Life.” She shares how working with Ina Garten, aka the “Barefoot Contessa,” taught her how to write (and season) recipes, how she defines “easy” and “fast” cooking, and why she jumped at the chance to work at Erin French’s famed restaurant, The Lost Kitchen. Through it all, she’s learned how to trust her gut in and out of the kitchen, use “superhero” ingredients to maximum effect, and invent new strategies for helping home cooks find success

  1. I had the great pleasure of interviewing Lidey right before her book was published. We sat on a bench in Central Park on a warm, sunny day, where she arrived (on time!) with (I think) her parents' dog. She was delightfully honest and interesting and articulate about what was important to her–both as a cook and as a recipe developer. I like how she's not a follower of trends, but, rather, wants to make interesting and delicious food accessible and enjoyable to prepare. She is one of my favorite NYT Cooking people (along with Melissa Clark, whom I wish you'd also have on this podcast).
