I love these pits. I think I'm going to get the bigger one not because I necessarily need the bigger one but they're almost the same price. Crazy huh?
Is the firebox and inner parts stainless steel? Thanks
Do you think a turkey would fit in that grill? Thanks
Hey Tom, just got it today. How do you get more smoke flavor, I know I can't get that deep charcoal flavor smoke! But it's a little to mild for me
Hey Tom did it come with a cover like other zgrills??
I see Sam's Club (Members Mark) has a pellet grill that looks interesting. It is double wall construction like this Z Grills but at less than half the price. Please consider getting one and reviewing it!
I’d love to see a Cook off between this Z Grills, the Masterbuilt Gravity Series and the Weber Smokefire..
That’d be a hell of a Vid to see imo.. 🙌🙌
This Z Grill is SCREAMING my Name!!
I want one sooo bad but still have three others and the last time I had 4 pellet grills, my marriage apparently couldn’t handle it! So I gotta figure out something here 🤣
For clarification, you super smoked for 2 hours + spritz every hour, 2 hours at 225 + spritz every hour, wrapped 1 hour 325, then set the sauce/glaze 225?
I was wondering if I would get a wood smoker or a pellet smoker… you convinced me with this video. But how about smoke taste, do you require special pellets for that because you can't add your own pecan/hickory/mesquite wood piece in it.
Thanks for sharing this!
That Zgrill did a great job on those ribs
Cheers!
Need a cook off between this and a gravity charcoal smoker.
Nice ribs there Tom. That looks like a SmokeFire and has similar vents, but that is about where the comparisons end. The insides remind me of every other pellet grill on the market with the drip plate and placement of the auger. Nothing wrong with that, it's just not the same as the open cook chamber as the WSF. Not having a drip tray and an open system makes the SF unique. It produces great smoke and the bark and color are better than anything I seen off similarly priced pellet grills. You'd have to do a side by side to see what I am talking about. It's a unique cooker that had a terrible launch. Like anything else, it has it's quirks but once I figured them out, I'm glad I went with that over any other cooker last year.
I've owned my EX6 for over a year and have had no issues with grease or pellet jambs. Took the finger guard out and keep it level. I have a 5 minute cleaning ritual where I scrape ash down the grease holes and make sure the burn chamber is clear. Never had an issue with it. On long smokes, I use drip pans under the protein which I also do in my kettle and Akorn as I hate getting greasy (yeah, I'm a primadonna haha).
Great review Tom!
I’ve had a smoke fire for 2 years now and it’s by far my favorite pellet grill and I’ve had lots of them. I bought it on sale at lowes for 649. It cooks hotter faster, and gives more smoke flavor by far than any other pellet grill I’ve owned (3 different brands). I’ve never had a problem with flare ups or grease fires, in fact I like that it doesn’t have a grease tray, none of them work very good anyway they just build up and need cleaned all the time. My only gripe about the smoke fire is the rear mounted pellet hopper was a mistake. Doesn’t flow pellets very good and gets covered in ash/grease grime from the exhaust.
Love the overview, but I don't know man, the second I see that traditional grease tray, I lose interest. Same concept that pellet grills have used for over 10 years – and the same way my current pellet grill is setup. Zgrills' griddle idea is poor imo as well – any grease goes right into the barrel. I prefer those designs that channel it out (like the bbqhack stuff). Smokefire may be strange idea for sure – but I'll take a little maintenance for the results you get out of it. I just can't get excited about these 'conventional' pellet grill setups anymore – feels (to me) like an oven made to feel more 'manly' – but still an oven. Which is to say, it does everything ok but not one thing super well. Smokefire imo changes that – Sure this conventional design is 'safer' but I don't need the easy-bake-oven.
All this and I don't even own a smokefire lol! But been considering it.. that or perhaps that masterbuilt charcoal deal.. not sure.
Tom I also have to say I'm always jealous when I see your videos. That garage full of grills.. ohhhh boy. Can I be your neighbor?? LOL!
I agree with you Tom about the Smoke Fire! Those ribs looked delicious and that ZGrills did an awesome job! I’m guessing you used B&B pellets? Nice cook Tom and thanks for sharing! Cheers.
Does that 'flame tamer' keep more ash in the pot meaning more often cleaning to avoid build up in the pot? I have a zgrill and it tends to blow ash all over the bottom which is fine. But feel like only the heavier ash collects in the flame pot meaning less often cleaning (maybe 5 cooks), because there's more place for the ash to disperse. Does that make sense? 🙂
Great cook Tom! Those look delicious.
One thing I think all the pellet grill makers should incorporate into their design is the pellet slide into the burn pot. It wouldn't be impossible for an auger fire to happen, but it reduces the likelihood to almost none.
That looks like a great grill. None of the overly complicated stuff that the smokefire has, just a simple design that seems to work well. How quickly can this grill heat up from low and slow to searing temps? If it's reasonably quick then it would be perfect for doing reverse sears too. Maybe a good excuse for you to slap a big fat ribeye on that grill 😉
More like a Timberline clone, but not exactly. Price is better. Don’t know if smoke production is better than the Ironwood or Timberline which make a fair amount up to 250.
I just ordered one of these from sams club for $499! Crazy discount. Thanks for the reviews, helping me choose a new grill.
Do you have a marketing deal with Z grills Tom? It seems like this lately
I still love my camp chef, but great video Tom.
Great job Tom.
This is a traeger timberline clone. Not that similar to smokefire.
This is another great video Tom. Thanks for taking the time to make it. I also tried many different liquids for spritzing before landing on water. It makes cleaning the spritz bottle easier and I could never discern a difference in the product.
I love my Z Grill that you encourage me to buy. Thank you again! Now for your first cook on this Z Grill you an super Awesome job! Perfectly cooked!!
Awesome video Tom 👍👍
Have had a Smokefire since the day they came out with no problems with the way their system works. I bought it myself …never had it given to me.
I like the look. Of course, it looks just like my Smokefire. 🙂 I am shocked by the price. I figured it would be priced at least a couple hundred below the Smokefire, but Z-Grills went with the exact same price.
Really like the look of that ZGrills 7052B brother! Love my 700D3 Z Grills, the controllers on these pellet smokers is legit! Cheers Tom!
