I don't get this whole craze. If meats bad for you or its inhumane or whatever. Then why work so hard to make it taste like it. Or even work so hard to have the texture, look and feel of meat. To each their own, but this craze is just insane. We have reach a point in history where we live so good that we have the this option. Instead of starving or surviving we have the luxury of this argument. Its laughable in my book.
I love Morningstar I dunno why 🤷♀️ I guess I like weird soy protein
It's like you tried to makes these look as unappetizing as possible. Come on! Your staff could easily cook these properly. I make Impossible and Beyond burgers and they NEVER look this dry and flat. No wonder no one was impressed. This isn't helpful. If you cooked these up using any amount of oil and treated them like a meat-based burger, they would not look this this.
I wish she wasn't feigning skepticism to try and relate to the perceived audience of people skeptical about plant based meat. It makes it harder to take this seriously. Jack was much more professional about it. I cook with a lot of plant based meat alternatives at the restaurant I work at and many are quite good. We've come a long way when it comes to what's available out there. Let's leave the skepticism behind and bring everyone on board.
I tried the Beyond brand. I will never make that mistake again…nor try any other. For meatless, it's black bean. Period.
I’ve tried them all, and I hate them all too
I’ll stick with real beef over lies from a marketing company
When I eat vegetables, I want them to taste like vegetables
I’m a long time vegan, and I’m not sure who these products are made for, but speaking for myself, I don’t want anything that tastes like meat.
Beyond Beef and Impossible Meat both work pretty well as meatloaf, too. But beware–the product smells strange when raw and definitely when cooking. The smell dissipates. I served the meatloaf at a Christmas party full of meat-lovers, and everyone admitted (just like Julia) that it definitely wasn't meat, but they were satisfied with it. Same with tacos–in that case it came even closer to fooling me.
NO, NO, NO, I'd rather eat the black bean burger. These are CHEMICAL TRASH & WHAT BILL GATES wants everyone eating. Never gonna happen.
Why would anyone eat these fake factory patties
@ 2:30 "Heme" is prounounced 'heem' 👍
Not very useful. Obviously artificial lab meat is going to taste more like meat than a mixture of plants and vegetables. And there's something about old white people whining about how vegan food "just doesn't taste like meat" that isn't working in 2022.
I don't like the impossible Meats they have too much of a smoke flavor and I don't like fake smoke taste. But you're right if you're going to have a burger and you're going to pile stuff on it something that just has the texture of meat works just fine. But I'm not vegan to eat stuff that taste like meat. Just looking for the protein.
I love America's Test Kitchen but… if there's no meat in it… then it's not a burger…
That's been my experience, too. Beyond and Impossible come the closest to feeling like meat, to me, but I'd also eat Morningstar or Quorn. Also, Mr. Bishop… Heme is said as "heem," not "hey-may" . . . though I kind of wish it were , after hearing you say it that way!
MorningStar is #1 for me. It's the cheapest and the difference in taste from the top ranked never justified the extra expense for me.
I don't get the love for Impossible Burger. As I ate it it had this familiar yet unpleasant aroma and flavor, and I realized it reminded me of my old dog's high end food.
I'll tell you, I am a confirmed carnivore, and I generally despise meat substitutes. I prefer a black bean burger that is trying to be black bean, not faux beef, a mushroom burger that celebrates the portabella not being pretend chuck. I feel that there are great ways to enjoy vegetables, soy, lentils, etc., that are not trying to pretend to be something they aren't. Dal is delicious. It doesn't need to be a meatloaf. That said, I honestly enjoy the Impossible products for what they are. They aren't really a meat replacement (though far closer than most) but they are just tasty in and of themselves. In trying to replace meat, I think they hit on something that can honestly be celebrated as it's own thing.
Impossible is a good substitute for things like chilli, tacos and spaghetti. The flavor is there, it's just missing something… it's lighter
When they label these as " Burgers " My mind goes to Beef, and the disapointment appears.
I really enjoy these ATK segments!
I think Impossible tastes the best but it wrecks my stomach. I like Boca cut up in salads.
Most of these have a ton of added salt which takes them off the "healthy" list in my mind. These are also tanking in the markets. Dropped by many markets and restaurants. Beyond is really losing value lately. And 2-3 times the price? Just limit your beef and it is probably healthier.
Please please before you try and "prove" your friend can't tell the difference..make sure you know their allergies.
I am allergic to coconut.. so these are out for me.
People with gluten or wheat allergies.
People with soy issues.
Just don't mess with peoples food. First i have a son who since his first tries at meat as a baby has never been able to even swallow meat of any kind. We have had him checked by a physician. he cannot do meat AT ALL. But ppl keep trying to tell me to trick him into eating it. Mix it in something. What part of a doctor telli g us he cant eat meat dont tbey get.
Secong I have an issue with the fat in deer meat, my body cant process the fat. I dont have the right enzymes or something like that. If i even get it in my mouth the fat which is liquid at that point turns to this white sticky globs in my mouth. And if ingest it well the bathroom and i are great friend for hours and im very sick the next day.
I say that to say SSOO many ppl have tried to "call me out" on my bambi issues or my grocery store meat problem by tricking me into eating it. Believing that they have some secret way of processing it that everyone else is wrong or their recipe is special and no one can tell its venison.
Its assault folks don't do it.
Same with my coconut allergy, not believing someone can be allergic to it. Saying you just dont like the smell or taste your not "really allergic"
Stop trying to trick people into eating what you think they should…
Back in my vegetarian days (short 27 year phase) Morningstar was the only thing we had (and for the first 20 years we wished we had it). So glad that phase of my life is over. ha ha 😎
I've tried all of these and agree with Julia. Beyond is best, but Impossible is a close second.
A homemade falafel “burger” can be delicious without pretending to be ersatz meat.
