Minced Beef and Cheese Pie – Australian New Zealand Pie @Pie Recipes
I was very wary when I first came across this recipe – the combination of minced beef and cheese strikes me as a bit weird. But it actually works wonderfully and I don’t know why minced beef and cheese pies aren’t more common. They are very popular in parts of Australia and New Zealand, and they really are yummy!

As an Englishman, I am very familiar with steak pies, steak and kidney pies, steak and onion pies, minced beef and potato pies, even cheese and onion pasties. I have NEVER heard of a beef and cheese pie, but these are going straight to the top of my ‘to do’ list.

Beef and Cheese Pie is a home recipe.
It's a pie you normal don't see when your out and about.
Warning. Don't ask for ketchup you well only get tomato sauce in Australia.
If want ketchup you will have to buy it from Grocery store.
The Ned Kelly pie is another classic Aussie pie . It is a beef & bacon pie with a whole egg cracked on top and sometimes topped with cheddar cheese. There are many good recipes for them on the net.

I love this recipe and have made it several times, however I always find I need to blind bake the pie base, otherwise it doesn't cook if I just put the filling in straight away. Does anyone find this to be the case?

I have never herd of lard what is it?
I'm Aussie but I must say your pie is not very Australian. We normally don't have cheese in them. Secondly I have never heard of pies being sold with peas
Can you use butter instead of lard?

Australian pies have short pastry, New Zealand pies use puff pastry. That latter is obviously better.
