1/2 C packed lt brown sugar
    1 1/4 C Hot water
In a bowl stir together 3/4 c sugar, flour, 3 T cocoa, baking powder and salt.
Stir in milk, melted butter and vanilla, and beat until smooth
Pour batter into an undressed 8 or 9 in square baking pan.

Pour hot water over the top DO NOT STIR.
Bake 350F for 35-40 mins or until center is almost set. Let stand 15 minutes. Spoon into desert dishes, spooning sauce from bottom of pan over the top. Garnish with whipped topping optional. (We like ice cream).

  2. My mom made this for us as children in the 70s. We didn't have a lit of money and all the ingredients were pantry staples. Us kids thought it was magic how everything switched places in the oven. Now that my mom is gone this recipe is a cherish family favorite
