MAKASSAR, INDONESIA – Along with being a meat and beef ribs paradise, Makassar is known around Indonesia for its seafood. Today we’re going on an ultimate Indonesian seafood tour in Makassar, from the market to the best seafood restaurant in town.

Lelong Paotere (https://maps.app.goo.gl/qB75hXhk4Mx9Sua86) – If you love seafood markets, this is about as good as it gets. The days fresh catch is sprawled throughout the market and you’ll find exotic seafood of all kinds. This is a perfect way to start an Indonesian seafood tour.

Warung Pangkep (https://maps.app.goo.gl/3MgLzkeekN9J89Cd7) – To taste the fresh seafood we headed to a local restaurant, that among with other things is well known for their ikan bolu bakar, or grilled monkfish – a delicacy.

Kepala Ikan Mappanyuki (https://maps.app.goo.gl/936CDJ2wyP9M6NaX7) – Next up I went to a legendary restaurant that’s known for their Kepala Ikan – fish head soup.

Sari Laut Mbak Atun (https://maps.app.goo.gl/8C1vGsJB4cGoRvE6A) – Finally, I went to eat the best seafood in Makassar, maybe one of the best seafood restaurants in Indonesia! From prawns with stink beans to many varieties of grilled fish with sambal, and black ink squid, this is a seafood paradise.

  1. I will go to Makassar, InShaaAllah. Even though I went to Indonesia once, I loved its food. Unfortunately I couldn’t explore many islands, especially this one. This city belongs to my heart even though I have never been there.

  2. Ikan bolu a.k.a milkfish has another name in Java Island, Indonesia. It is ikan bandeng. Yes, it is. Many little bones. In my opinion, that's why people in Jave Island prefer to cook the milkfish in the pressure cooker (to soften the bone becomes edible bones) with little bit water , galangel, lemon grass, bay leaves and seasoning with salt only. When it's done (approximate time is an hour) then fry it. People in Java Island call this dish with bandeng presto. Presto is the cooking technique by using pressure cooker. Terima kasih for exploring Indonesia's cuisine. Sampaikan my best regards to istri Anda and Micah (sorry if I spell your child's name wrong). 🙂👍
