Microwave ovens have a solid place in our kitchens today. Sure, they’re great for reheating leftovers, but increasingly we’ve been calling for them in recipes to take over jobs that they can do easier and faster than traditional methods. Hannah and Lisa give you tips to make the most out of your microwave and show you their favorite countertop models and microwave cookware.

It's rather distracting every time your team has to reach over and around some appliance. All it takes is one smaller side table next to the presenters, in this case to their right so they can easily and safely access the microwave. Lifting things up over the door is challenging to wrists and hands, especially as they are always using just one hand with a bowel of broccoli or anything else a little heavy.
I just think back to presentations at state fairs over the decades. The setup features the microwave or other device, but the presenter still has easy access to the controls and the door.
Can still be well shot but safer for the team.
Has the cookware been tested for metals like lead and antimony?
many doctors i know don't use a microwave because it puts radiation in your food.
Very nice tips. But we avoid using our microwave. Our repair guy said that it uses a lot more power than conventional cooking.
But if you’re in a hurry, cooking in the microwave is really great.
I stopped using our air fryer because it sparked. I got a replacement (Gourmia), The same thing happened
I found out that this is a thing happening. I reported it to consumer repors. A lot of different models catch on fire! So no more air fryers for me
My step-mum was a whiz with a microwave oven. One my faves was her poached fish with herbs. Perfectly cooked and delicious.
America's Test Kitchen; providing you with worthless tips like how to slow down your microwave cooking.
Because we all choose to cook in a microwave, thanks of the quality of cooking. 🙄😒
There is a point in time when the equipment corner wasn't just an advertising cash grab. You guys used to have integrity. Now this is just crap.
Let me guess…no
I threw out my microwave oven over ten years ago, have not missed it. It is possible to live without one.
I’m looking for a small combination microwave toaster convection oven. PLEASE DO A REVIEW!
My microwave broke several years ago, haven't bothered buying a new one.
You can get pretty good and consistent poached eggs with a microwave. Add 1/2 cup (4oz) hot tap water to a mug. Add an egg. Mic for about one minute. I save Pringles lids for mug lids when microwaving. Fun fact: "micro" waves are actually fairly large, as evidenced by the door glass. The waves are too big to pass thru the grid film spacing- which allows you to see inside.
Interested in the mug cake recipe, but GAVE UP after the 4th pop up !! Haven’t been to your site in a while- now I remember why. So while I have loved this channel for years and years, your site has as many ads as a no-name food blog!
Why design microwave cookware that has glass and metal? Both will get hot to touch. Plastic does the job well and has less risk of burning your fingers.
I’m cleaning my microwave with glass of water plus 1 tablespoons of vinegar heating 5 minutes and wiping it with paper towels.
DO NO HARM!!!
NEVER use a microwave for food or drink!! We are all getting far too many toxins in our bodies!! Stop being mindless sheep!! There ARE reasons for illness!! Do your research. Gary Null PhD is one place to start. Microwave food not only removes the nutrients but adds harmful energies that you do not need. Have better respect for your bod and use your brain,
Yum some blubbery chicken wings 🤢
The best microwaves have inverter technology, so instead of cycling the magnetron an and off it lowers the output of the magnetron instead for lower power settings, This is a game changer, Panasonic seems the best to me, and I am so happy with mine.
I have an induction range, so heating water for corn doesn't take very long. Also, I would think that 3 ears of corn in the microwave would be a no-go, if they were in their husks, because of the size. No thanks to wrapping them in plastic. If I had to do 3 to 5 ears of corn, due to batches required, it would be faster for me to do them on the stovetop. However, if I just wanted an ear for myself, I would definitely try this.
It would be nice to hear about any auditory cues a given product has for low vision and blind. All to often manufacturers forget(intentionally or not) those of us who have visual disabilities, and still have to EAT too!
PS: dials don’t do good when there’s no voice or other cue speaking the setting out. Also, using simple drawr felt bumpers I’ve made a checker board patter for my fingers to follow- but I shouldn’t have too, this should be a consideration any manufacturer does at the first steps of any blueprint for a new product. That, and hire people who need accessibility in what we do- not all of us have attendants, or want one. Independence is just that. It does help to have Allie’s who can elevate these needs up the food chain and not continue to keep it in a box.
Normally I appreciate the work they do at ATK, but this is a giant miss. Microwaves destroy nutritional value. That is why people are told NOT to microwave breastmilk or formula for infants. The microwave will destroy the only source of nutrition for the baby. MICROWAVES ARE NOT FOR COOKING!! It's always disappointing when they put stuff in a microwave.
If you are serious about cooking don't use a microwave. The only thing they should be used for is heating water. I have not had a microwave in my kitchen for 25 years. Occasionally, I use the micro at work to heat my coffee but that's it.
The microwave in our previous house came with a metal rack so more items could be put in at a time. Have you seen the ovens with a food cover attached to the top? When you open the door, it raises, and lowers to cover the food when you close the door.
Does anyone know why the glass plates in most microwaves have unevenly spaced notches so that it’s a pain to get the plate in the proper position? Evenly spaced would still, get the job done. And some have them this way.
Less is more in almost all appliances. Dishwashers, washing machines, dryers… The more bells and whistles, the more that can break and the more confusing it can be to operate. I’d like to have a finger-proof finish on all my kitchen appliances.
What a great video!
Try using a glass lid with a handle to cover your food
Celebrity ho David Chang.
I don't think I've used my stove for 6 months…. Toaster, Rice Cooker and Microwave 🙃
Why didn't you eat those "good chicken wings?"😒🤔
I love listening to Lisa!
Not Corningware, which is okay but heacy, rather Corelle which is much lighter, the smaller dinner plates fit exactly on the larger bowls and and saucers on the shallow and deep cereal/soup bowls. Open stock at Walmart
$120.00?? That's insane. I use bowls I've had for a long time and they work just fine.
This video made me smile. I used to sell microwaves in a big box store way back in the 90's. For a time, if you bought one you got TEN free 1-hour cooking lessons!
We hired a lady to come in and teach it and she made all sorts of dishes, one being an Oreo cheesecake.
Also back in those days, my boyfriend's mom would cook a whole Christmas turkey in her microwave!
Please can you make a test review of Yum Asia Bamboo ricecooker please?
I have a Tupperware pressure cooker for the microwave. I have yet to try it. Anyone know about it and have tips/opinions?
I love ATK but you guys really need to start adding times stamps to videos.
chicken wings do not get crispy, and crunchy in the nuker, they need baking or frying. What a poor example of microwave cooking. and lids ion everyday cookware, were not as easy as a rickety plate to remove, we could all see that you needed to use both hands every single time, and I am sure that when the food inside is hot that glass does not stay cool enough for you to remove the lid. These are supposed to be real life tests, not this is what the sponsor wants us to say.
So it's the Anyday mainly the cookware or the process/recipe? Could you do a variation of the rings recipe with a microwave safe bowl and the piggy steamer?
I was expecting some good microwave hints and hacks, not microwave and microwave bowl sales ads.. disappointing in this one.
It was Stephanie Cheng, the daughter of Stanley and Helen Cheng (Meyer Cookware) who came up with the concept for Anyday. This family has brought the world Circulon, Anolon, Bonjour and more than 200 lines of cookware and are the 2nd largest cookware company in the world.
boiling pasta is actually very effective in a microwave. it takes about as long as stovetop, but it's a hack not a real cooking method. you use less water and actually only evaporate it, there is no water left or only very little
Isn’t putting plastic in the microwave an absolute no-no? I was surprised when she said to wrap the corn in plastic and microwave it
I have a "new to me" microwave trick. When my kitchen is smelling musty, I can grab a bowl, fill it with about a cup of water, toss in some sliced lemon, spices, or a little bit of grated apple or roughly chopped apple peel, and then microwave for three minutes. When it's done, I open the microwave, set the bowl on my high counter, leave the microwave open for a few minutes, and that funky smell is replaced with the delicious scent of lemon, cooked apples, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, or nutmeg. This idea would work with (for example) apple, grapefruit, or tangerine peels set aside in the freezer in a Ziploc bag just for this purpose.
