How to make baked Ziti with sausage and a creamy sauce.
Ingredients:
15 oz. Ziti or Penne Pasta
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1 lb. Ground Italian Sausage
24 oz. Pasta Sauce (About 3 Cups)
1 Cup Water
1 Tablespoon Parsley Flakes
1 Tablespoon Thyme
1 Teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes
Garlic Salt & Black Pepper to Taste
2 Cup Mozzarella or Muenster Cheese, Chopped
3/4 Cup Ricotta Cheese
1/2 Cup Heavy Whipping Cream
1/4 Cup Parmesan & Romano Cheese
Directions:
1. In a large pot, boil the pasta according to package instructions, until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. In a large, oven safe skillet, heat the oil over medium high heat. Add the sausage and cook until browned. Stir in the pasta sauce, water, parsley, thyme, red pepper flakes, salt, black pepper, and 1 cup of the chopped cheese. Add the cooked pasta, stirring until well combined. Remove from heat.
3. In a small bowl, whisk together the ricotta and heavy whipping cream. Season with garlic salt and pepper. Pour the mixture over the top of the pasta. Top with the remainder of the chopped cheese and the parmesan cheese. Bake in a preheated oven at 425F for 20 minutes or until bubbly and lightly browned. Let cool 15 minutes before serving.
