  1. As a boy who grew up in South Houston, Momma Nifa was a legend and her little restaurant on Navigation was a treat for us kids. I grew up in a very mixed neighborhood of Texans from all over but we were all low to middle income. Going to a restaurant was a real treat. Her tacos al carbon were great for us kid who just wanted meat and cheese and the adults could put whatever they wanted on theirs. As we grew older, there were bigger and fancier Nifa’s restaurants, but the original was still the best. Now you can get a fajita anywhere but they aren’t the same.
