Nice job explaining options for every ingredient.
Base, sweet, sour, salt and aromats… I get it. But no umami?? I always add soy sauce or something as well. Good video though, and totally agree on liquid smoke …
I just won a sauce comp and it did NOT include liquid smoke…never. lol. Nice vid.
Great tips. We've been making our own sauce for about 15 yrs. Everyone should try since they're so much better, easy, and frankly cheaper, than store bought chemical and HFCS filled goop. I often throw in about a 1-2% concentration of Bourbon (cook out the alcohol or it's acrid) for some extra tang and complexity.
Could you do a similar video but making your own dry rub ? Thks
I've been making my own BBQ sauce for years because I can't stand the Worchestershire sauce and/or liquid smoke in store bought. I use tomato paste, not ketchup, as a base because it's not as sweet.
I like to put my sauce in the smoker to get the smoky flavor.
Great video and very informative.
Hi todd
I make a Dr pepper barbecue sauce. I reduce it down in the smoker so it's naturally smoked.
The white sauce is definitely not Alabama, we don't use it down here in the southeast part of the state. It's more of a North Alabama thing
❤❤❤❤❤
That's a beautifully simple sauce that is great on its own or a starting point. I love making my own sauces and they're usually just thrown together as I taste it along the way, I'll try yours as a reset!
buy yourself a spatula…and use it..
We’ve made our own BBQ sauce for about 5 years now. We finally wised up the past 3 years and started canning it. Now there’s no waste at all. And it makes a great parting or Christmas gift. Thanks for a great video.
Never been a big ketchup based BBQ sauce person, but our mustard base is friggin amazing! I'm actually making a sweet &tangy this year for Christmas gifts!😋
My youngest son makes his own sauce and changes it up at times to make it a little spicey, and it sure is good
Great sauces !!!
Can’t wait to make some of my own. Thank you for the inspiration and keep up the good work. Stan.
If you want smoked flavor, then make your own ketchup instead of store bought. Put your tomatoes on a smoker until charred. Peel them, and there is your smoked flavor. Add your smoked paprika. Natural smoke. I've never liked liquid smoke for anything..
We don't have different styles here. Its just barbecue sauce. I was quite pleased with the last lot I made. I did add smoked paprika which gave it a nice flavour as I use it on non smoked meat and also added treacle which added another dimension to it.
We add A1 steak sauce to ours for a little zing
Very interesting video. I have tasted good sauces and was wondering how they make them and now I know. Great info. Have a terrific day.
Every time I’ve tried to make BBQ sauce it seems to have an overpowering vinegar flavor even when adding the right amount that the recipe asked for. Any reason why?
