Today I’m testing out this unusual folding “briefcase barbecue” grill by Kikkerland to see how it works. I include my first failed attempt, along with my second try which went much better.

  1. Another possible con is that it doesn't too stable when you go to flip your burger or chicken breast. And of course, the whole thing is hot, so you better have some fire-resistant gloves on to hold the grill in case you accidentally push it too hard.

  2. If you had a couple of holes on either end of that 'Ashcatcher' it would allow air to circulate, thus allowing the charcoal to burn. Surely the whole point of this is for when you fancy a BBQ on a picnic…Not sat in your backgarden.

  3. Don’t beat yourself up, James; grilling is a fine art to be handled with finesse. No matter how cute or quirky the bbq grill is, one needs to draw on lessons learned from experience (I for one would use tiny sterno cans instead of charcoal for this grill)

  4. you could take the grill off and add charcoal and manage ash, etc… and who knows what the creator of the thing was cooking on it… maybe some beef strips and vegetables (the Japanese have a shaped charcoal that they use that is very hot and long lasting), and maybe the inside is meant to look all screwed up and not brand new, function over beauty sometimes…id rather eat something hot while backpacking then worry about how the inside of a stove looks…

  5. These are primitive types of charcoal grills, similar to how asians and some mediterranean grills are designed. These needs some manual fanning/air blow to heat up the coals. On the other hand, charcoal griller designs like weber doesn't necessarily need extra assistance because of its ventilation design that promotes proper airflow and heat, probably just some charcoal starters and you're good to go.
