Bacon Brussels Sprouts Recipe
Ingredients
300g of Brussels Sprouts
100g of Pancetta, chopped into small dice
100g of Mushroom
1 Tbsp of Olive Oil
1 Tbsp of Green Pepper
1 Tbsp of Fresh Chopped Garlic
Salt and Pepper, to taste
Preparation
1) Trim the ends of the Brussels sprouts, halve them and set them aside. Bring a saucepan filled with water up to a boil, add a pinch of salt and add your Brussels sprouts and cook them for about 2 minutes, drain and set aside.
2) Preheat a large skillet over about medium heat (between medium and medium-high is the sweet spot here) add the pancetta, oil and garlic and cook it until the pancetta becomes nice and crispy on all sides and the shallot has developed a bit of color.
3) Add the partially cooked sprouts, and muchroom,green pepper toss them with the pancetta, place them cut side down and allow everything to cook together for about 4 to 5 minutes or until the sprouts have developed some color.
4) Add a pinch of salt and pepper and cook everything together for about a minute and serve!
Pancetta is Italian bacon
Pancetta is a salt-cured pork belly meat product in a category known as
salume. In Italy, it is often used to add depth to soups and pastas which is cured and unsmoked, while bacon is cured and smoked, but both need to be cooked before being eaten.
Pancetta has a far smoother texture than prosciutto, and the flavor is much more delicate than the pork belly.
Pancetta is the same cut as American bacon, so that’s the first substitute that comes to mind. Canadian bacon, salt pork, prosciutto, smoked ham, and smoked sausage are all good choices as well.
