  1. I just purchased the Woodwind Pro, after having owned several other smokers in the past, from stick burners, to water smokers, to different brand pellet smokers. So far, I'm really enjoying the Camp Chef, but I'm still in the learning phase. One thing I question is the smoke function. No matter where I set the smoke setting, the amount of smoke produced seems about the same. One other thing I'm confused about, is why on the HI Smoke setting, the smoke level is only set to "3". If you want maximum smoke, why not set it to "10"? Also, the manual indicates that at higher smoke settings, you should expect greater temperature fluctuations. On my smoker, no matter where I set the smoke control, the temperature never varies more than 5-degrees.

  2. Not enough space to list everything wrong with mine. Would have been nice to get a free one like the YouTubers so I wouldn't feel bad about tossing it. Paid full price and no help from customer "service". The bottle opener works so I can open a cold one and admire my $1200.00 paper weight.

  3. For those of you that are curious about PID, there is a reason he doesn't go into depth about that. It would take several courses in engineering for anyone to understand it. Basically, PID stands for proportional, integrator, differentiator control, which is a mathematical way to describe a feedback system. It's like a thermostat but a little more complicated and precise. It bases what it will do on several different inputs, n this case, not just oven temp, but also it appears probe temp and smoke setting. PID control is something you might find in anything automated that responds to feedback and needs precision. A washing machine, for example, is something that doesn't have control. You just set it and it runs. A thermostat has control, but most of them just use an on and off to stay within certain boundaries, and have no sensitivity. PID control allows for adaption and prevents swings around the target point. It also allows for their smoke management as he alluded to in the video.

  4. I have only 2 complaints on my camp chef and both to do with the controller. First and the biggest because it sort of forces you to use the app. You can't see the LED screen in bright light. A towel over your head is a real pain — why can't they address this obvious issue. This brings me into the app(android version) – it loses wifi connection info every time you shut down and sometimes even the bluetooth connection goes away, on the controlled end. It's a real pain doing a full connection setup over and over again. (android 10) I am about to see if android 11 is any better.
Frustration factor very high but after all this dancing the cooker part works well and has great features, why could you not be as good in the controller department.

  5. We have a Woodwind model with the sear box and I can tell you that it's amazing. Being able to do a reverse sear cook makes steaks turn out perfectly every time. The original controller finally quit on us after a few years, but still being under warranty, Camp Chef sent us out a Gen 2 controller free of charge and it was extremely easy to change out and worked perfectly. They really stand behind their products and they've earned our business for sure.

  6. I was super excited when I got this for Christmas this year. Took a few minutes to install… but the WiFi was only able to connect ONCE, meanwhile the Android phone and iPad I was using to try and update the firmware both had full WiFi signal while I was on the ground in front of the grill. The WiFi "antenna" on this thing is ultimately encased in the pellet hopper housing, keeping the signal unreliably low and unstable. I'm RMA'ing this thing now, to my disappointment. I'm sure I'll hear back in about a week wanting to do some troubleshooting, not interested. Out of the many upgrades we did on my DLX24, the only one that worked as intended was the folding front shelf. CampChef will not be getting any more of our business.
