Adding oil to the water when cooking pasta has little to no impact on the cooking process. Some people do it in the hope that the oil will prevent the pasta from sticking, but in reality, the oil tends to float on the surface of the water and doesn’t significantly affect the pasta. To prevent the pasta from sticking, it’s much more effective to stir it during the first few minutes of cooking.
