Decadent and EASY Bread Pudding Recipe

This amazing bread pudding recipe is perfectly sweet with a wonderfully soft texture inside, a crisp top, and a delicious traditional pudding sauce. Bread pudding is basically a giant upgraded french toast casserole. Super-quick to whip up and of course it’s a great use for stale bread, but just because it’s easy as can be doesn’t mean it’s not amazingly delicious! I used brioche instead of plain white bread then whipped up my favorite brandy sauce, which I poured liberally on top.

  1. I made this last week-end and it turned out perfectly. Thank you John
Update: Made it again and used the online version of the sauce recipe. I prefer the video's version. I found the sauce version on the online page was way too thick. Good just the same.

  2. Just stumbled across this video when looking for Bread Pudding. I am definitely going to make it as my first ever (at 64 yrs old !)
I also just want to say thank you for the way you explained what and WHY you were doing things and the extra suggestions to add pecans etc I also love all of your copper everything…so beautiful. I love copper. I will let you know how my bread pudding turns out and I'm SURE you M-I-L? loved it. Much love from 🇨🇦 and Happy 2024 ❤

  3. If you prefer a more custard like texture, let your bread soak in the milk/egg mixture for 30 min to 1 hr before baking. My recipe is similar but I usually add golden raisins and very small cubes of green apple. Also cinnamon in the mix and sprinkled on top before baking. If you use raisins make sure you do not share with your dog- as raisins/ grapes are very toxic and you will find yourself at the vet. The sauce here looks great- but I am a more plain bread pudding person. I use challah bread and like this recipe dry it out in oven- this is a must!

  4. Okay, I don’t exactly know why, but John is my go-to YouTube cook. I think it is his humility and expressive and effervescent love of cooking — every recipe he teaches us is his “very very favorite”, and “sooooooo good!” He shows us his Oopsies, and how to fix them. I love his transparency and stories of whom he is cooking for, and past experiences with the dish. I also love that he is a former Math and Science teacher for middle schoolers. Oh how I wish I had him as my teacher during those tortuous years!
