It has been around 3 months since I deep cleaned my fridge so I found many expired and spoiled items. This made me think about how much food we are wasting at home. According to the US Department of Agriculture, food waste happens at different levels including production, retail and consumer levels. In the U.S. each year, 133 billion pounds of food is wasted at the consumer (household) and retail (grocery stores) levels with the highest percentage being household food waste at 43 percent!

We can all take part on avoiding food waste at home by implementing better storage solutions for our produce, using leftovers wisely, and composting to name a few. To be transparent, I have only introduce some of these methods in my home but I am aiming to do the best I can in this effort.
