Wow, looking through the comments lots of folks like and/or have molasses. I always have brown sugar. Molasses is just not a part of my family background of cooks/bakers/eaters.
If I don't have brown sugar in my house, it is very likely that I do not have molasses

I stopped buying brown sugar after discovering this trick. It gets so hard, and takes up unnecessary space. So much easier to keep a jar of molasses and make it as needed. I mix it in a bowl with a fork, it is pretty easy.
I'm not a huge fan of lime, and sulfur in my sugar. I only use dark brown, or light brown sugar.

I never buy brown sugar, I don't use it often enough before it fossilizes. This is what I do instead, and I'll often cheat by adding more molasses. Bang, super fragrant dark brown sugar on demand.
