Full review and results chart:

Stain removers abound, all guaranteeing spotless results on the first try. The reality? When it comes to getting out stubborn food stains, almost none of them work.

We tested 7 top-selling national laundry stain removers to find the best one:
OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover
Tide Ultra Stain Release
Resolve Spray & Wash Laundry Stain Remover
Zout Laundry Stain Remover
Shout Trigger Triple-Acting Formula
Clorox 2 Stain Remover & Color Booster Liquid
Resolve Max Power Gel with Scrubnubs

We focused on tougher stains. To each white T-shirt and piece of blue cotton fabric, we applied measured samples of six foods that make stubborn stains: melted dark chocolate, hot bacon fat, yellow mustard, black tea, a puree of chipotle chiles in adobo sauce, and pureed blueberries. We would pit each stain remover against this array while noting its ease of use.

  1. Ive been using clorex 2 for stains and its been working extremely well. I used to use resolve but have found clorex 2 to be more effective. I dont have to buy any additional cleaners because its something i already use.

  2. My tshirts are a mess! I am so embarrased to go out in public with STAINS on them (so I don't). But, plopping them is the washer, even soaking in bleach, does very little. So, I will go out today and buy some Oxiclean and a bucket. Does anyone know how much to use?

  3. I need to try Oxiclean to see if it'll get out red clay from being on my knees on pants doing yardwork. I put laundry detergent directly to the knees and it only took out a little. My 2nd problem is, I have a new style washing machine with the stubby agitator. The older machines cleaned clothes better.

  4. I came here to find the best "spray" stain remover. Nobody is going to messing with a bucket and Oxi Clean on a regular basis. I have Oxi Clean and use it from time to time, but for regular laundry people want a quick and easy solution. Whisking a bucket of Oxi Clean isn't what most people are looking to do. It would have been nice if they did a comparison of the spray stain removers only, and tested all the spray stain removers (several big names weren't tested). Which spray stain remover works best with old stains "after" the clothes have already been washed and the stain is set? It's probably Oxi Clean again, but we still would like to know if there's something you can spray and go. For example, I wear black t-shirts and an get an occasional (OK I admit it, frequently) grease spot where something I was eating got on my shirt. I used to just launder them, but I started noticing dark spot stains of what I presume were caused by grease. These are stains after washing and drying. It didn't matter what detergent I used. I tried pre-treating with laundry detergent with no success. I told my 82 year old mother my dilemma and she asked me if I'd tried a stain remover spray. I hadn't, I didn't think they did anything. So I gave it a shot and tried Spray and Wash and Oxy "Maxforce". What do you know, to my surprise both removed all of the old spots on my t-shirts. My black t-shirts look great again. Which is the best spray stain remover?

  5. So I've used shout and oxi clean in the above video. The powder I threw in and started my clothes but my clothes get stained yellow patches. What am I doing wrong? My HE washer is top load and the water won't turn on unless the lid is closed.

  6. Use
    1/2 cup of white vinegar
    1/2 cup of baking soda
    1 gallon of boiling water
Soak couple of hours and you get whitest white
Old old recipe handed down to me from my sister from mom and mom’s mom etc….

  7. You guys should’ve used some sort of animal blood as a stain to try to get out, because blood is the worst, speaking as a female who has had periods for decades with MANY times having it occur as a surprise!

Beet and pomegranate juice would’ve been a great choice as well!
