Our winning clip-on probe thermometer, the ChefAlarm by ThermoWorks, helps with this problem. It features a probe that is connected by a thin wire to a base that sits outside the grill or oven. The probe is inserted into the food you’re cooking and the base displays the temperature readout, allowing you to monitor temperature without opening the oven door or lifting the grill lid.

I have a basic Thermoworks DOT and put it in front of my wifi security camera and it is perfect, I can see from anywhere, no matter how far away, as if I were standing next to it, also hear the alarm, it if I am not watching!
Link is dead?
I wish you would have included the Fireboard 2. It is a great unit.
I still prefer the meater probes. You must not have connected the block to your wifi because I have been able to monitor brisket cooks from another city on my phone while at work. Illcall my girl when the alarm goes off….. BABE ITS TIME TO WRAP!!!!!!
So basically the apps are all hot garbage
Outstanding! As always!
I purchased the smoke Gateway and no problem pairing. Love it!
Only down side on the thermoworks
Is that it has a delay
Could you add into your review ThermoPro models. These are go to for many. TP829 is a latest hit.
ATK is my trusted reviewers before I buy any cookware.
I am so happy to to have to go and do a ton of research on my own…I just go to YT put in "American Test Kitchen" with the product i'm interested in and viola! research done. My pots/pans, knives, salad spinner and can opener….all bought in the last year via our friends at ATK
Hi can you update this list for 2022
Great review
Should have tested FireBoard, but it is hard to beat ThermoWorks for accuracy and performance.
WHAAAAAT? NO FIREBOARD?????
You wasted my time
What about the Fireboard 2?
So appreciate these reviews! Thank you 🙏
Most wireless thermometers tend to be user error. Some have a cloud option that will let you go miles away and still see your cook.
i watch you for couple years now and am grateful for your work, but you gotta lose the "football field units" and convert or AT LEAST include metric.
Excellent review ty
She forget to mention how the wired thermometers cannot be used for rotisserie items, which severely limits your options.
Can't say that I completely agree with the test kitchen here. It seems like the test kitchen maybe filled with non-tech savvy individuals which is fine but I would say that anyone with even slightly competent technical skills should be fine with the true wireless smartphone systems like the Meater+. None of the smartphone based thermometers REQUIRE you to use presets either as they can all be configured with custom settings with very little issue unless you are rather technically illiterate. Any thermometer that is tied strictly to presets would be completely useless so I don't buy that argument at all. I also don't buy the comment about the reduced range of 25 ft for the Meater+ considering the base station acts as a repeater and boosts the range for the unit just like the Yummly or Meatstick thermometers. Perhaps in a commercial setting like the test kitchen there could be either concrete or steel beams in the walls or saturated wireless signals that would prevent it significantly reduce transmission but in the average home that would be a non-issue and when testing for wireless situations they really need to consider their setting and factor that into the results. Perhaps by doing an additional home-based test to confirm if their commercial setting is not the actual problem.
Another thing that Lisa failed to mention or even consider is how completely unusable these corded probe needed systems are for rotisserie use. In that instance the only option is a TRUE wireless probe or you will end up with a tangled destroyed mess. I suppose it depends on how often you use a rotisserie but I found that once you can rotisserie there is very little that will make you want to stop. The only reason not to is if you are a person who really wants those sear marks on their meats.
