Full episode of jack on tofu please!
taste like chicken
Another great way to eat fried tofu/ tofu puffs is to stuff them
you gotta show a chocolate silken tofu pudding. its so very easy and actually tastes really, really good.
Im spoiled because I get to spend half the year in Taiwan each year. This isn't even close to all the different kinds of tofu there are. It's an incredibly versatile protein, but the options in the US are extremely limited to basically what was shown in this video, outside of what some Asian markets might have. Try freezing firm tofu cubes, then use in hotpot, it will puff up and absorb the soup broth!
I'd love more thorough examples of uses that AREN'T spicy. It feels like 80% of vegan recipes use spiciness as the primary source of "flavor", which really makes them inaccessible for people who can't eat spicy things and doesn't help with convincing more people to try eating meat-free.
I consume tofu/soy protein every day. I’m happy to see ATK educating viewers about this amazing protein source.
"Just think of it like cheese" Ohhh them's fightin' words there Jack.😆 I'm reminded of when Paula Deen was a guest on a radio show and she said she was traumatized by tofu because she thought a block of tofu was a block of cream cheese.
Soft tofu is enjoyed in my house with grated ginger, a little soy sauce and tsuyu concentrate, bonito flakes, and thin-sliced scallions. If we want a sweet application, we can add toasted soy flour or kinako and a molasses-based sauce or kuromitsu.
One form of fried tofu is called abura-age in Japan, and while it's great in soups, the most common use is to soak it in a sweet soy sauce-based marinade and stuff it with vinegared sushi rice. This is called inari-zushi, and you can add stuff like stewed root vegetables or bamboo shoots to it.
Other than that, my key advice to enjoying tofu is to go ham with the seasoning. Make your spicy tofu extra spicy, if you need soy sauce or tsuyu sauce concentrate, add another splash for good measure.
Pulmuone = pool-moo-one
Not Pul-mo-ne
it is literally my favorite protein source. It’s so yummy.
FYI: you can freeze firm tofu, then defrost it – the texture will become more sponge like and is great with stews and hot pot.
I eat tofu daily and love it. I don't think this video did enough to show it off. We need a more thorough and thoughtful look at tofu on this channel.
More tofu classes please! Love the stuff, it's great for us, and it doesn't get the coverage it deserves.
Tofu is overhated! Great medium and an ingredient that stands on its own (when not juxtaposed against meat for no reason)
Oddly disturbed by his sticking of the finger into the soft tofu
Tofu is amazing, any other opinions are null and void.
I agree with Jack at 1:44, I really like the House Foods brand of tofu.
