HOT: Buy our favorite egg cooker by West Bend
NOT: Kuhn Rikon Egg Separator
Lisa McManus, the Gadget Guru, shows what’s hot and not in the realm of egg gadgets. An egg cooker is great for consistent hard-cooked, soft-cooked, and poached eggs. But do you really need an egg separator? Learn how easy it is to separate an egg with your hands and a bowl.

I like the music
Wish this was newer
I have been having a problem with this egg-cooker. I have been making hard boiled eggs & filling the water to the correct line(s) in measuring cup (on the correct side). I poke the eggs as instructed. However, almost every time I use it, at least one egg kind of explodes out of the shell. Can anybody give me a suggestion?
all of it seems worthless. Worst video and I lost a little respect for America's test kitchen. sad….
Alton Brown fans dislike these uni-taskers. An immersion circulator would cook your eggs beautifully and also do much more. Use your fingers or a slotted spoon to separate the yolks.
Wow, I can't believe that woman is wearing TWO rings in a professional (?) kitchen. Does the US or America's Test Kitchen not have health and safety standards for food preparation? Gross.
shake the egg before cracking and they separate much easier
The last thing I need is another one-use-only appliance that takes up over a cubic foot of space. How about encouraging your viewers to properly time eggs on stovetop instead?
Sous vide your eggs instead
My teenage son likes to make boiled eggs for breakfast, so I thought I'd make it easier (like boiling eggs is hard, duh), and picked up an electric egg cooker. Turns out it is not as handy as all that, the eggs foam up (from the little hole you have to poke on them) when cooking and the machine is a pain to clean.I am donating it to the charity shop….
Loving all these product reviews !!! More more more!! …. Please 🙂
I disagree. I feel like you don't need an egg cooker, but having a simple egg separator can come in handy; depending on the person. I got one years back at walmart for like $3 and it's on plastic piece and it works great and you can toss it in the dish washer when done. Yes granted I normally just use the shell to separate my eggs, but when doing a larger batch I love it.
eh, they both seem like a waste of money.
I like your hair!
This may hard or soft boil eggs but I wouldn't say that it can poach eggs, at least I wouldn't call that poaching.
The egg cooker seems kind of cool, sure, but thanks to Alton Brown, I know the best way to cook hard "boiled" eggs is to use my steamer basket, or my rice cooker with the steam attachment, to get over a dozen hard cooked eggs, perfectly tender and delicious, every single time. No breaks, no hassle, just delicious hard cooked eggs, every time. Also, I can cook about 15 at a time using this method!
Sorry but I dont see how some huge unitask device could possibly be hot. If you cant figure out how to hard boil, soft boil or poach eggs in a pot then you need to learn. That's a basic kitchen skill. This video felt like nothing more than a commercial paid for by West Bend.
That's what you get Kuhn if you don't pay Americas Test kitchen to advertise you
