This is awesome information. My only question is, you mention when cleaning the flavor bars. When you were done with cleaning them, how do you know that is rust or just brown from cooking? I want to make sure I am not using items that already have rust.
Thanks for your help. 😁
Great informative video, but as a chemist people who avoid "chemicals" always make me laugh. "I would never use chemicals where I'm cooking…" proceeds to make a cleaning solution with acetic acid and sodium bicarbonate. Many traditional cleaners would be just as safe and more effective than these "non-chemical" alternatives. Just because something has or or doesn't have an easy to pronounce common name doesn't mean it's safe, natural, organic, or whatever other meaningless word you want to assign.
Adding baking soda to vinegar as a cleaning agent is pointless. You're effectively neutralizing the acidic properties vinegar by adding the baking soda and creating saltwater with carbon dioxide gas as a by product.
Dave! This is a great video! Thank you for posting!
Thanks Dave. Very helpful and to the point tips. Appreciate your time.
Really helpful, down to basics and practical video – great tip on making your own cleaner. And for not fussing over looking as new …. Thanks
If he would have had a good grill instead of this Genesis shit, his grill would have never looked like this. But those pieces just don't get hot enough.
Thanks for video. I like to wear disposable nitrile gloves, when cleaning the Q. That black carbony grease is messy stuff.
How is it in Ohio
This video is gold. Thank you very much!
Nice application of elbow grease!
May I suggest – From a chemistry standpoint, mixing vinegar with baking soda is a bit counter productive. The bicarb negates any benefit of the acidic vinegar. The vinegar negates any benefits of the alkaline bicarb. After the initial bloom of CO2 bubbles (a few seconds), it's essentially water with a little salt.
The goo in our BBQ'ers comes in essentially two chemical make-ups. Food/fatty acids, baked on to the metal, is typically acidic. THAT would tend to clean up by the application of the alkaline baking soda. The other kind of goo is ash mixed with water (potash) which is alkaline. THAT would tend to clean up with vinegar, the mild acid.
Likely none of that is more effective than the simple physical scrubbing that we all love to put off.
Good info, but that background music is SO distracting, and pointless.
Very good guide on cleaning this. 🌟
I watched your video after the fact. We still cannot get the burners to heat evenly ? Thanks do much
Thanks Dave
Very helpful. Thanks for posting
OMG!! W/in the 1st couple of mins I was like “OH HELL NAH””. That is entirely too much work for me!!! I’ll pass on wanting to even THINK of buying an outdoor grill’. I’ll continue to buy my barbecue…NO THANKS!!
God Bless and thank you. When cleaning my grill, i always run the burner on high and super hot to burn the grease and powderize any food particle, around 30 minutes after grilling. Then, i can easily scrape off the ashes and wipe clean. No chemicals needed.
Great video, all the info I needed, not too long of a vid and you have a good pace and amusing commentary. Thanks!
like the no nonsense approach
Thank you I’m 15 and this is one of my chores and I did not know how to clean a grill what so ever I just made an extra $20 also bc I followed your instructions to a T
Simplistc and valuable.
😂 OMFG!
You call that deep cleaning?! It looks like you have used it twice!
The one I got you can stab it and won't be able to hit the metal because of the really thick layer of grease!
Probably you would tell me that my grill is disgusting, to throw it away and get a new one because of how greasy it is 🙄
wow, thanks for the nice tip! but you'd better use Crocodile Cloth Cleaning Wipes to save your time! they are really amazing!
You are an amazing phenomenal teacher and your guidelines were spot on. After 3+ years of neglect looking amazing🌞. Thank youuuu very much 🤗🤲🙏
This is an awesome vid. Very quick, to the point! Clear and easy to understand as well. Love the homemade feel of the video, feels more real unlike all the try hards out on YouTube these days haha. Thanks!
Adding dish soap to the vinegar/ baking soda mix can help with stubborn grease. Vinegar and baking soda can take a while to start working…Another good trick is a portable on demand steamer style cleaner like the Wagner Spraytech or handheld steamer and distilled water. Steaming can be quick and safe way to clean and sanitize inside of your grill without using chemicals.
I have similar bits on my weber. Flame deflectors come up perfect after soaking in hot soapy water and brush it.
I pressured wash the entire grill.
Very helpful!
