HOW TO CLEAN A WEBER KETTLE CHARCOAL GRILL
______________________________________________________________
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO CLEAN YOUR BBQ
1inch putty knife
1 inch razor
sponge
#0000 Wool scrub pads
Degreaser
Dish soap
STEP #1
Remove both grates and put off to the side. Begin to remove the grease and gunk buildup using the plastic putty knife. Once you have removed as much as you can with that, switch to the razor blade to remove any tough and stuck on sections. Repeat this step for the lid until you have all the hardened great deposits removed.
SETP #2
With the grease removed, spray both the main bowl as well as the lid with degreaser and let it soak for a couple minutes. After a few minutes spray again and begin to rub the degreaser around using your #0000 wool brush to remove any of the leftover grease buildup. Once it has been scrubbed well, rinse it off completely with water.
STEP #3
With your grill rinsed, give one final sponge wash with dish detergent to fully clean the BBQ. Rinse fully and let dry before putting the grill away.
That’s it, enjoy.

He went all Postal on that grill 😂
Good video. That looks like a new grill. I was wondering if the grill needs to be seasononed with oil afterwards to prevent rust?
Great job and very helpfull, I'll try to do the same.
I knew you didnt clean that one part that good ya think ya slick
The metal putty knife will scrape the paint inside and will start rusting later.
I have to try and clean my parents 30 year old webber…I almost feel like it’s wire rack needs to just be thrown out and start again 😬
I have the same as yours myself, terrified of scratching it with the razor scraper
Can you use the Zep on the outside of the grill as well?
Terrific video, I've come back to it several times. I've assembled most of the tools but what's the reason you (and many others) favor Dawn? A good product, but how is it special — is it safer for the environment, or more effective than, say, Palmolive?
This is my first charcoal grill after a lifetime of gas. https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxBPjh-m7-eaAjTEt8BOZRSRRxXqxiI90W The food in it turns out great. Also, the ash remover makes it easy to clean. The base is sturdy and it has ample space inside.I use a chimney to get it started, and it seems pretty efficient. One chimney is enough to cook a whole lot of meat and still keeps burning. If you close the vents it cools down well making it so the coals remaining are still usable as supporting cast members (you still need fresh coals to get them going.I was going to get something bigger, but realized with coal, bigger is just more wasteful and harder to cook with.
Can't help but feel this video could have led with the commentary at 8:55, when, after lots about cleaning the cooking grate, and lots of sparkling results shots featuring the cooking grate, he admits to having just gone out and replaced the grate with a new one.
🙄
Fortunately I'm not OCD about a squeaky clean braai
That is a diffrent gril great what did you do with the orignal one
I just scrape everything out really good and don’t ever degrease anything.
I saw you use the metal putty knife. What did you do with the plastic putty knife?
I’m having a real hard time scrubbing my Weber Charcoal 22” BBQ grills. I’ve tried EZ-off, Simple Green, soaking in Dawn Ultra Platinum for 2 hours then used a S.O.S Steel Wool Soap Pads, and still not spotless, it’s just way too much work. You made it so easy. Thanks
How DID you get the grill to shine!?
You should never use metal on the gill grates it's scratches it and that starts the rust. Use wood. What you can't scrap off with the wood is baked on castor and really help with no rust and food not sticking. Why do you think he replace the grate at the end? RUST from cleaning with metal.
1 weber deluxe performer cleaned, 2 more and a regular kettle to go! Thanks for this vid. Helped tremendously.
Lmao Dude said eff it and bought a new grate.
😂😂 the grill grate is new man.. you would never get it that clean in all the small edges
Great help, thanks for posting
I've been meaning to get around to this 😅… now I'll have a better approach, thank you good sir!
Almsot exactly the method I use. I personally do not clean around the rim/lip (5:35) of the top or bottom. I used to, but found that a lot of air and/or smoke would move in and out of the grill. The grease that builds up on the rim/lip helps give the kettle a nice tight seal. I also remove the kettle from the table and place it on a trash can, lined with a garbage bag. I give the exterior of the bottom part a nice cleaning as you did with the top.
Thanks for sharing will definitely use this method. 👍
I started cleaning mine today. Maybe I just had more buildup, but it took a lot of work. Under the lid and around the perimeter, it was like thick black varnish. After about 4 hours, it was mostly clean. Still a few stubborn spots that I haven’t been able to clean off. I’ll try to finish up in the next couple of days. Thanks for the video!
I'd dreaded to do my but you made look so simple thanks man. I just subscribed
i've had my weber for 2 or 3 years now, haven't really deep cleaned like this, but have pressure washed a few things, i do probably need to get some new ash cleaning vents, i've taken them apart and bent them back but they keep gradually going back up.
I have owned one of Weber kettles since 2008 and it remains in good condition.
Great video! Way more detailed than I’d do, but I don’t make videos either.
One question: I live on the coast and the biggest issue is griil grate rusting. I have to replace the grill grate about every other year. Is there a way I can prevent it from rusting so quickly and completely? Oil? Thanks.
Zep/citrus degreasers form carcinogenic formaldehyde when combined with latent nitrogen oxides and ozone which are common airborne pollutants. so be particularly careful when using these types of citrus cleaners if its smoggy
I only wanted to see the steel grate get clean
Get a karcher steam cleaner and clean after every use 3 years later my weber still looks brand new
Cleaned the grate and swapped it out for a brand new grate lol??
How much did that grill cost you back then?
that grill is so clean….the virgin mary would be happy to take a shit in it! lol.
omg, thanks for the nice tip! I also highly recommend using Crocodile Cloth Cleaning Wipes! they can also help you remove grease and oily dirt easily! try them, they are really amazing!
I followed this and the plastic putty knife scratched the shit out of the inside of the bowl. Didn't even use a metal/razor scraper. If you do this regularly surely you will compromise the longevity of the bbq and rust will kick in quicker?
Thanks for the cleaning tip!! 👍🏽 Can you send me the link, name and model or tell me where did you get that side table that fits to the side of the grill? Thank you
I bet your fingers look great after this 😁
There's no shame in wearing gloves!
Thanks for the vid
I’m looking up base side tables for my grill on Amazon as soon as put out the candles and and turn the lights back on after watching this video.
I haven’t cleaned my grill in probably 4 years lol. It’s time.
